Project: Green Passive House

Martín Amado Pousa

Project description:

The house is designed based on each of the guidelines of the passive

houses. Focused on combining the orientation of the different rooms with

the use of natural light.

This house is designed for a possible family with two children. I design

house where day area is placed on the ground floor and night area is

placed on the first floor.

In the second floor, the gross area is reduced creating a terrace

therefore sunlight can be introduced into the bathroom on the first floor.

Project particularities description:

Passive solutions in summer

We have designed a greenhouse in the South side of the house to take

advantage of solar radiation in winter heating the South wall. This heat

goes into the house at night by heat conduction. To get an appropriate

transfer I have designed a heavy external wall to be a high thermal

inertia and high thermal impedance.

Passive solutions in winter

We have designed a light cover with automatic control on the

greenhouse to create shadings in summer over South wall.

I have designed a chimney to generate cross ventilation in summer.

Sunlight enters into the bathroom on the ground floor trough the shaft.

The shaft is used to goes up the installations too.

Project summary:

Construction type

I have design a heavy construction with load-bearing walls. External

walls are composed by "in situ" concrete, insulation and brick masonry.

These walls conduce its weight to a continuous foundation structure.

External wall and roof detail on the South

- External wall and roof detail on the North

- Ground floor and external wall detail

Mechanical services employed

I select a compact heat pump system.

To improve the efficiency of the compact heat pump I have planned

6,00 m² solar thermal panels on the roof. The 68% of total annual heating

load DHW production is produced by the solar thermal panels.

To reduce the electricity consumption I have planned 20,00 m²

photovoltaic cells. Primary energy demand is 70 kWh/m² )and the

specific primary energy reduction trough solar electricity is

47 kWh/m² a. Therefore, savings is 67%.
