What are Plants?

Plants are living things. Living things grow, breathe,

reproduce and move. A plant has several parts

(seeds, stems, roots, leaves, flowers and fruits).

THE PARTS OF A PLANT

The Seeds

The seeds grow in the soil and provide us with new plants.

The Roots

The roots of the plant take in water and other nutrients. They also help the plant to stand up tall in the soil.

The Stem

The stem carries water and nutrients throughout the plant. The leaves grow on the stem of the plant.

The Leaves

The leaves of the plant provides us with food because the fruits get nutrients from them. Some leaves are also used as food.

The Flowers

The flowers attract insects to the plant to scatter the seeds for new plants to grow, as well as, provide food for some insects.

The Fruits

Fruits provide us with food to eat. Inside some fruits are seeds that are used to produce new plants.
