Partners In Watershed Management

• Competitive grant program to assist communities with projects that improve flood reduction, water quality and watershed education

• Program began in 2009

• Annual allocation varies (2012 allocation was $500,000)

• 16 projects awarded since 2009 (6 in Stark County)

• $1.1 million in total awards ($472,144 for Stark County)

• City of Canton, Fairhope Nature Preserve, $43,200

• Village of Brewster, Sanitary Sewer Lining, $116,079

• Stark Parks, Watershed Education for Teachers, $22,080

• The Wilderness Center, Sugar Creek Conservation Corridor, $15,785

• YMCA of Stark County, Camp Tippecanoe WWTP, $25,000

• Stark Parks, Fry Family Park Acquisition, $250,000

Eligible Applicants

• Political subdivisions• Non-profit agencies, 501(c)(3) organizations• Project site must be located within the MWCD

jurisdiction area

• Upgrades and Repairs to Dams• Stream Gauge Flood Warning Programs• Upgrades to Key Culverts and Bridges• Road Relocations and Elevation Upgrades• Flood Mitigation• Local Flood Reduction Programs• Sediment Removal• Watershed Management/Planning• Farm Conservation and Forest Management Programs• Assist Local Property Owners with Best Management Practices• Water Quality Improvements• Improving Wastewater Treatment and Sewers• Acid Mine Drainage Issues• Environmental Education

• Application Cover letter – description of your agency or group

– summary of your project or program

– type and amount of assistance requested

– how your proposal relates to and supports the conservation and flood control aspects of the Mission of the MWCD. Projects with a focus on recreation are not eligible for funding through PWM.

• Resolution from your governing body, indicating support for the proposal and a commitment to any potential matching funds

• Complete the application form (available at mwcd.org)– attach additional sheets, drawings, resolutions, letters of support and/or

collaboration, and other relevant information

– If desired, your application form, without supporting documentation, may be submitted prior to September 1, 2010 for an initial review

– If you are a non-profit group, please include your IRS Determination Letter confirming Section 501 status.

Application Requirements

• Extent to which the proposal promotes/supports the conservation and flood control aspects of the mission of the MWCD.

• Need for and benefits of the project or program

• Project or program design

• Level of partnership development and local support

• Past project or program experience

• Sustainability of the project or program

• Planning process

• Level of matching funds or in-kind services

• If acquiring land, the extent to which the purchase would meet the goals of a watershed action plan, a riparian corridor-wide acquisition program, etc.

• November 30: Applications due • January 2013: Applications reviewed by Technical

Review Advisory Group• March 2013: MWCD staff provides

recommendations to MWCD Board of Directors• April 2013: MWCD Board of Directors approves

project list
