November 2nd marked another
successful day of learning for sec-
ondary students at Bells High
School and Pritchard Junior High.
These campuses hosted their bi-
annual Career Fair and Expo.
More than 35 different career
fields were represented during the
course of the event, with many
presenters being Bells High
School graduates themselves.
Prior to the event, students were
given an opportunity to select their
top choices for careers they want-
ed to learn more about at the fair.
BHS Counselor, Karri Branam
scheduled students into four dif-
ferent sessions in which they
would rotate throughout the morn-
ing. Guests to the event presented
30 minute sessions sharing as
much information as possible re-
garding their career field. Topics
ranged from educational back-
ground required for a career, to the
various career opportunities one
might be afforded based on that
career.
While many students thought they
were just going to hear a very spe-
cific presentation on a particular
career, they learned that through
advancements in technology and
an innovative workforce, tradition-
al careers have exploded into a job
market that offers many different
avenues for jobs, fulfilling a varie-
ty of interests students may have.
In addition, presenters covered
rules, regulations, and general
preferences that employers follow
and are required as part of a given
career. Many students realized
from the presentations that choices
they make now, even while still in
high school, may affect their fu-
ture job opportunities. For exam-
ple, Texas Game Warden, Grant
Moore explained to students that
being accepted into the Texas
Game Warden Academy is not an
easy endeavor. Extensive back-
ground checks are completed on
individuals seeking acceptance
into the academy, and if a person
wants to pursue this career, any
blemish on his/her record may
hinder receiving that acceptance.
Another presenter, Shari Adams,
who has worked for various talent
recruiting agencies, explained to
students that posts they put on
social media today may impact
their success in pursing roles as a
Hollywood actor/actress. These
same lessons were shared by many
of the presenters at the career fair.
After students attended the morn-
ing sessions, the presenters were
served a catered lunch before the
afternoon Expo began. Several
additional career field representa-
tives attended the Career Expo,
and students from both campuses
were given time to walk around
and visit
participant
booths
where they
had time to
chat person-
ally with
representa-
tives from
colleges,
armed ser-
vices, and
specific
career
fields.
The 2016 Career Fair and Expo
proved to be a wonderful day of
learning for Bells students. Pre-
senters and participants in the Ex-
po extended high praise regarding
the organization of the event, the
variance of career fields, the be-
havior of Bells students and the
overall friendliness of the campus
culture. Both participants and
students expressed that they look
forward to the next event in 2018.

Congratulations to Coach Kristina Stephens and her Pritchard

Panther Basketball Updates
The basketball season is in full swing at both secondary
campuses. The #4 ranked Lady Panthers will face the
state ranked Lady Hornets in an exciting game at Dodd
City on Friday night, December 16th.
Both the Panthers and Lady Panthers will play in the
Leonard Holiday Tournament to be held December
28th—December 30th. District play will begin for the
girls team on January 6th with a home game against
Collinsville. The boys will begin district on January
13th at Tom Bean.
The Lady Panthers are currently 12-2 for the season.
They came in 3rd place in the Bells tournament and
were 2nd place in the Pottsboro tournament. Pictured

Branam working to
steal the ball at the
game against Alba
Golden. Pictured
below, Coach Karri
Branam speaks with
intensity to the fo-
cused Lady Pan-
thers.
The Panthers have
just come off of two
weekends of tourna-
ment play. Both the
JV and Varsity
teams participated
in the Farmersville
and Princeton tour-
naments, where they faced some fierce competition.
The teams didn’t come
out on top in several
games, but they
played hard and fo-
cused on preparation
for district play to
begin. During the
last game of the
Princeton tourna-
ment, the varsity
boys team battled
against a team from
Sidney, Australia
that is doing a
“summer tour” in
the USA. Despite a
63-53 loss to the
aussies, the Panthers
played a hard fought
game with the point
spread coming only in the last couple of minutes. At
right, senior Maverick Priest goes for a shot against a

Coming Spring 2017……….Texas Reads One Book
Bells Elementary students,
teachers, administrators, and
families will be participating in
the Texas Reads One Book pro-
gram. The book selection for
this year’s Texas Reads is The
Lemonade War, by Jacqueline
Davies. The program will kick
off on April 3, 2017 when the
head coach of the Dallas Cow-
boys, Jason Garrett, reads the
first chapter via an exclusive
video-cast. After the launch
date, families are encouraged to
read one chapter each night.
Students will receive their books
before the kick off date in April.
Families will receive activities
to do at home that are centered
around the book. This will be
an exciting event for BES fami-
lies. Mark your calendar for April
3rd!
Thank you BES students for
raising over $1,700 in the
annual penny drive to go to-
ward the Christmas Angel

The top 2 teams in each contest advanced to Area
LDE competitions in Krum on November 19th.
Bells had a total of 6 teams advance to Area, and
then 4 of those teams advanced to State.
Once again, Bells FFA was well-represented at the
state competition in Huntsville in early December.
The Senior Chapter Conducting Team placed 3rd
at the State level with an amazing score of 989. It
is worthy to note that the 1st and 2nd place finish-
ers were both large 6A districts out of Lubbock and
Houston. Several other large districts finished in
the top 10. The Greenhand Chapter Conducting
Team finished 4th with a score of 962. This team
also did an amazing job. Bells also placed 8th in
Greenhand Creed Speaking, and 12th in Greenhand
Quiz.
Congratulations to all of the Bells FFA students for
another successful competition season. Many of
these students are gearing up for show season and
various spring competitions.

(January 2nd is a Staff Day; no school for
students.)
First Grade Writing Fun
Bells Elementary first graders cele-
brated Grinch Day by reading the
story How the Grinch Stole Christ-
mas. They also brainstormed adjec-
tives that described the Grinch and
completed a story map. The day
was concluded with a writing activi-
ty on ways to make the Grinch grin.

Symbolic Stockings
Sophomore English
teacher, Mrs. Deanne Clark re-
cently assigned the annual sym-
bolism stocking project to her
English II students. The students
have been studying the literary
device: symbolism. Students had
to choose at least five symbols to
represent themselves and create a
stocking. Students presented
their stockings to the class.
From the School Nurse
Reye’s Syndrome
Epidemiological research has shown an association between the development of Reye’s Syn-drome and the use of Aspirin (a salicylate compound) for treat-ing the symptoms of a flu like illness, chicken pox, colds, upper respiratory illnesses, etc. Reye’s Syndrome is a serious life threatening condition that caus-es confusion, swelling of the brain, and liver damage. Early signs of Reye’s Syndrome are continuous vomiting, listless-ness, loss of energy, aggressive-ness, confusion and irrational behavior after an illness.
The United States Surgeon Gen-eral, the Food and Drug Admin-istration, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the American Academy of Pediatrics recommend that aspirin and as-pirin containing products not be given to children under 19 years of age during fever causing ill-ness or a viral illness. Acetylsalicylate is another word for aspirin. Some medication la-bels may use other words for as-pirin such as acetylsalicylate ac-id, salicylic acid, or salicylate. Medications containing aspirin that should not be given to chil-dren under the age of 19 years of age are Pepto Bismol, Alka Selt-zer, Ascriptin, BC Powder, Do-
an’s, Ecotrin, Kaopectate, Maalox, Pamprin, low dose Aspirin, Do-an’s Pills, Anacin, Bufferin, and some nausea medications. Herbs that contain aspirin Willow Bark, Spiraea, Medadowsweet, and Ne-am.
Children, tweens, and teens
should check with a parent be-fore taking any medication. If
you suspect your child may have
Reye’s Syndrome, take them to
the Emergency Room right away.
Other important information may be found on the nurse’s
website at http://www.bellsisd.net/10109_2.

Congratulations students!
BHS students recently held their
annual money drive for Christ-
mas Angels. The student body
raised over $4000.00 to go to-
ward Christmas Angels. Mr.
Weger had challenged the clas-
ses to try and raise at least $800
in order to be awarded a field
trip to Stonebriar Mall. The sen-
iors and sophomores far exceed-
ed this goal. Thank you to the
BHS stu-

Minecraft Attendance Adventure at BES
Congratulations to Mrs. Stanek’s
class. They won the October attendance contest
as 99.4% of the class was present during the
contest period. The reward was that Minecrafter
Stanek and her “incredible group of minecrafters”
got to dress up like Minecraft characters and go on
an adventure of creating. Fourth graders had a
blast with this activity!
Annual Bells Elementary Penny Drive BES students raised $1,824.96 this year in their Angel Penny drive! All of this money remains at BES
and is used to help local students who might find themselves in need. For example, this year, some of
the money along with money raised by the BHS PALS program went to the purchase of new coats for
students. Part of the money will also go to the purchase of hams that will be sent home with each BES
family who is a part of our Christmas Angel program.
BES students have huge hearts. They worked very hard, and made sacrifices in order to assist others!
BES Student Council Officers are Kate Waldrip, Kinley Weger, Kaison
Branham, and Holden Trainor. Mrs. LaDonna Stanek and Mrs. Tishia
Crump are student council advisors.

Hands-on Learning in Junior High
Science Students in Mrs. Kristina Nelson’s science classes
are accustomed to engaging experiences. During
Halloween week, students did experiments looking
for the signs of a chemical reaction in each experi-
ment. They did dry ice experiments, roasting
marshmallows over alcohol burners, and disassem-
bled glow sticks to witness the release of light ener-
gy.
Thank you to Brookshire’s Grocery in Bonham for
donating the dry ice for the experiments.
In December, the
students were learn-
ing about force and
speed. To help learn
these concepts, the
students pictured
below performed
static can races.

Once again, Bells students
and faculty welcomed Veterans
for the annual program where we
honor those who have served our
country in the armed services.
This year the campuses
combined their programs and
held a district-wide celebration in
the BHS gynmasium. Students
and teachers came together to
perform songs and speeches that
would show our Veterans how
much we appreciate them and
honor their dedicated service to
our country. Over eighty
veterans were in attendance at
the program, and many more
guests came to honor their loved
ones who had served and have
already passed. The Bells
Elementary Student Council
organized the program and
introduced each participant in the
event. This year’s special guest
was Colonel Carl Bilderback,
retired U.S. Air Force. Colonel
Bilderback gave a very moving
speech with highlights from his
time of service in the air force
and the many reasons we should
be proud to be Americans. It
was a wonderful day at Bells
ISD, and we appreciate all who
helped with the program and
those who came to participate
and share their experiences. Guests were served breakfast
before the program by the
elementary student council and
PTO. After the program, they
were treated to a nice luncheon
hosted by the Bells High School
Student Council.
2016 Veterans Day Celebration in Bells ISD
Every year the Bells Elementary Stu-
dent Council holds an essay competi-
tion centered on Veterans Day. This
year’s essay contest winners were Dyl-
lan Washburn (2nd and 3rd grade win-
ner) pictured above, and Ethan Lewis
(4th and 5th grade winner) pictured at
