Who Selects/Purchases Titles? Adult Fiction

Suggestions are welcome! Not all titles available to purchase through

OverDrive. Titles not always available in desired format.

Collection Development Budget Made up of member libraries’ annual participation

fees.

Collection development budget for 2011-2012 = $84,265.80.

Currently, budget is evenly split between eBooks and audiobooks. Average cost: audiobook ($50) / eBook ($13)

Further breakdown: Adult Fiction (current, popular, bestsellers) – 65% Adult Non-Fiction (current, popular bestsellers) – 20% Juvenile / Young Adult – 15%

Circulation Policies

Circulation period: Audiobooks: 7 or 14 days (no early return) eBooks: 7, 14, or 21 days (can be returned early)

# of titles that can be checked out at one time: 4

# of titles a patron can have on hold at one time: 3

# of days patron has to “pick up” a hold: 3

# of titles patron can have in “My Cart” at one time: 5

# of minutes a title will stay in “My Cart”: 30

Hold Ratios & Additional Copies Our target hold ratio = 6 (group’s goal is to

have one copy of a title for every 6 holds)

What is a hold ratio? The number of holds on a title divided by the number of copies owned.

Examples: Explosive Eighteen (audio) – 29 holds / 5 copies =

hold ratio of 5.8 Eclipse (eBook) – 6 holds / 1 copy = hold ratio of 6
