HOW TO OVERCOME PROCRASTINATION

Useful tips to leave procrastination behind…

The procrastinator …•Is often optimistic about his/her ability to complete a task on time.•Usually gets poor results out of his activities.•Might be an stubborn person who rejects to accept rules such as deadlines.•Uses pressure of time to cope with his/her work.

Are you a procrastinator ?

•Poor distinction between urgency and priority: As soon as you get a lot of tasks piled up you are forced to drop current tasks to attend to the urgent ones.•Distractibility: Procrastinators leave tasks unattended because "something else came up". They usually prefer to do comfortable tasks rather than urgent or important ones.

Why do you procrastinate?

•Forgetfulness: Procrastinators tend to forget what they have to do and that´s why they do not do it on time.

•Fear: Usually, when people feel incapable to perform a task, they avoid doing it or they wait for its expiration so that it no longer has to be dealt with.

•Perfectionism: Perfectionists tend to have the intense desire to jump in and do things by their selves because others just can't do it right; they believe that they shouldn't even start on something if they can't do it well. Each of these characteristics "drives" the perfectionist to procrastinate.

It is important that you break down big tasks into shorter ones. This will give greater sense of progressing towards completion .

It is necessary that you set reasonable deadlines by your self.

How to get rid of it…

PNL suggests that you think and feel the stress that causes not doing your chores on time.

It is essential that the procrastinator have a to do list. It helps him visualize how much work he has to do and also gives him the satisfaction of checking as done a completed job.

Expert Marti C. recommends that people start with the most difficult tasks first, so that each upcoming job will seem easier and you will feel compelled to pick it up.

Psychology experts insist that procrastinate people not make extremely high expectations about their job and realize that there aren’t perfect things.

It is essential that people force them selves to concentrate on what they’re doing and learn how to say no to your self and other who come up with a better plan than doing chores.
