Myopia: Are You at Risk?According to a study by the
National Eye Institute, myopia, ornearsightedness, is more prevalenttoday than even just 30 years ago.Myopia is a condition in whichclose objects appear clearly andobjects at a distance appearblurry. It is a common conditionand costs Americans billions ofdollars a year, indicating a greaterneed for cost-effective preventionand treatment.
Why is myopia more prevalenttoday than ever before?Researchers believe the reasoncould be linked to consumerssaturating their eyes withcomputers and other technologydevices. Instead of spending timeoutdoors and training our eyes tofocus on the distance, many ofus spend our days in front of acomputer screen, focusing onlyon things within arm’s reach.
A comprehensive optometricevaluation should includetesting for myopia. For moreinformation, visit the NationalEye Institute web site atwww.NEI.NIH.gov.

All A-Twitter About Twitter?You’re probably familiar with
Twitter, whether you realize it or not.Have you noticed a blue bird onyour take-out menu? Or have youheard your grandchildren laugh overa tweet they’ve just read? That’sTwitter. Being familiar with Twitter,though, doesn’t necessarily meanunderstanding it, so check outthis quick guide.
Twitter.com is an onlinesocial networking site: You get140 characters (including letters andspaces) to share your thoughts at anygiven time. You can choose to followpeople—friends, family, randomstrangers or people you’d like tomeet someday—and people maychoose to follow you. The updates(called tweets) of people you follow
are listed on your account homepage,and your updates will appear on thehomepages of your followers. Twitteris an open forum. You can set youraccount to be private (your tweets onlyappear to people you approve), butthe default setting is public.
To keep up with conversations,people often use hashtags (#hashtag).People who want to read about aspecific conversation topic (#PGA, forexample) can then search for andfollow comments with the hashtag.

THINGS TO DECLINE IN YOURDECLINING YEARS
Decline to criticize our youth, to saythe world is bad,
That good old U.S.A. is doomed,and that all the news is sad.
Decline to lose your happy smile,the twinkle in your eye;
Your humor and your zest for lifewill help you to get by.
If you decline to do these things inyour declining years,
Not only will you have more fun,but you’ll deserve three cheers.

Fast Lane FamiliesPetty, Allison, Earnhardt and
Waltrip sounds like it might be a lawfirm. Actually, those names are amongthe most successful families in NASCARhistory, in a sport where family ties arecommon. Nascar.com lists nearly20 famous families who have hadmultiple members of the family tree inthe racing business at one time oranother. One driver, Sterling Marlin,literally followed in his father’sfootsteps. As a teenager, Marlin madehis debut in 1976, replacing his father,Coo Coo Marlin, who was sidelinedwith a serious shoulder injury. Abrother act, meanwhile, has enjoyed itsshare of success, especially at theDaytona 500. Brothers Darrell andMichael Waltrip have each won thatrace. Brothers Bobby and Terry Labontealso make racing a family affair andenjoyed a dual victory lap in 1996 afterthe season-ending race in Atlanta.Bobby Labonte captured the checkeredflag in the race and Terry Labontenotched the overall pointschampionship for that year.
