To strengthen undergraduate education by improving the quality and real-world relevance of student learning.

To demonstrate student achievement to policy makers, families, and other stakeholders.

Why?

ILOsThe abilities that all UFV students can demonstrate upon completing their studies

A collective and democratic year-long exercise that included input from faculty, staff and students as well as the local community.

How?

By developing our ILOs on our own terms, we are out in front.

Based on our own educational values and those of the students and community members of the Fraser Valley.

Emphasis on the overall student experience.

Integration of service areas with academic areas in a shared mission.

Focus becomes the whole student.

With dedicated work and volunteers, outcomes submitted were reviewed, collated, refined and reassessed, voted on and revised.

Process was begun by our forward-thinking Provost, the ILOs were determined by the entire UFV community.

Indigenization

UFV

The next step in the process was to align program outcomes to the ILOs.

And program entry level outcomes.

Step 2:PROGRAMS

Outcome fatigue

Latest fad?

Dictate how they would teach and assess?

Rigour / assessment?

Faculty

Development of their course learning outcomes - refinement.

Provides freedom to teach and assess.

Enables a more inclusive learning environment.

Step 3COURSES

It enables multiple means of achieving student learning.

Flipped classrooms, hybrid learning, experiential learning experiences, participatory learning, technology-enhanced courses, module curriculum, anytime-anywhere learning, internationalization, just-in-time learning, and more….

Going forward, outcomes challenge the notion of time

Credit hours

Getting an education means doing the time

There’s only one student, not your student and my student.

Recognition

Times are changing and so is UFV
