Our Vision
Through delivery of the highest
standard of service, our vision is
to be the leading provider of
residential care in our
community.
Welcome From Cliff Evans, Operations Manager
Happy new year to one and all and I am looking forward to informing you of all the many
continuing improvements and exciting initiatives across all out sites. Generally, late
December and early January are a quiet time for us as many trades and contractors close for
their annual break with this year being no different. With 2017 well and truly upon us, we
plan to ramp back up our various projects and replacements programs as they all start to
return. These will include amongst others, the air-conditioning and furniture replacement
program at Magnolia, the rejuvenating of communal areas at Holland Park Aged Care, the
repainting and carpeting program at Lodges on George and of course the commencement of
construction of Aspley Aged Care. This last point being a source of frustration as inevitable
bureaucratic delays see this commencement behind by three months. Never the less, we
expect to officially start construction in late March early April.
On another note, many of you will be aware from the media the aged care industry has
welcomed changes at the Ministerial level in health and aged care. Following the resignation
of Sussan Ley as Minister for Health, Aged Care and Sport, the Hon Ken Wyatt MP was sworn
in on 24 January as the Minister for Aged Care and Indigenous Health and the Hon Greg Hunt
MP as Minister for Health.
Given our peak bodies (Leading Aged Services Australia) previous calls on Government to
establish a dedicated Minister for Aged Care we very much welcomed both Ministerial
appointments and are looking forward how they will address a range of current and
emerging issues that are affecting our nation’s ability to adequately meet the needs of the
growing population of older Australians. With severe cuts to funding, freezing of indexation
this year and other changes over the past couple of years including removal of care
supplements and payroll tax exemptions, aged care providers will face further and ongoing
challenges. Now more than ever, it is vital that constituents voice their concerns about
funding to their local Member of Parliament to ensure our new Ministers comprehend the
impacts of their budgetary decisions. Let’s hope, the new Ministers have a little more
foresight and willingness to listen to the industry they oversee.
Hello Everyone, Late in December we welcomed Petrina the new Care Manager to the Lodge. Please
pop into see Petrina and introduce yourself if you have not already done so. Petrina has been away
for 3 weeks in January for a pre-planned holiday with her family but is now back on deck.
Over at the Lodge you will notice we now have a nurse’s station just opposite the lounge in the
community building. Please make this your first point of contact when you are arriving / leaving the
lodge or looking for a staff member.
Over the last year we have collected a fair amount of unnamed clothes and unfortunately we are
unable to return them to residents as they are not labelled. In January, we placed all lost property in
the media room at the Homestead and encouraged residents, relatives / representatives to please
come in and see if you can identify any of the items. We will leave the lost property in media for a
further 2 weeks in February and any items still remaining mid-February will be given away to charity.
We can assist you will labelling clothes, Last year we purchased a heat sealing clothes labelling
machine, so if you are in need of more labels please see Mandy or Courtney at reception who can
organise the purchase of labels which can be charged to your account and then our laundry ladies
Whilst many of our family members and residents frequently pop in to see Gene, Jenine and Petrina
our Care Managers to touch base, each year we offer families a formal case conference where you
can discuss you loved one’s care plan and have input into the care provided to ensure it is
personalised to your loved ones needs. Gene, Jenine and Petrina will be in touch with you
throughout the year however if you wish to see them sooner rather than later for residents residing
in Ashbury, Boyd and Campbell please email gene@cpsmcare.com.au , for residents residing in
Drummond, Europa or Fairview please contact jenine@cpsmcare.com.au and for residents residing
at the lodge please contact petrina@cpsmcare.com.au
On that note a I will sign off for January, Suzanne
Suzanne Norambuena, Facility Manager
Lifestyle News
Welcome back to another year. We certainly sent the old out with a bang and welcomed the new in with an exciting Happy Hour with Tania, singing up a storm. Everyone was entertained and kept busy with nibbles, a beer or two, glass or wine or soft drink. Our residents said goodbye to 2016 and a Big Hello to 2017, here’s wishing for a prosperous and eventful year.
This year Lifestyle will be introducing a few new activities to the program. A long with yoga with the lovely Tracie who calls herself the hip whisperer and Mr Lei with Tai Chi classes also our walking program, we would like to introduce swimming, as we have wonderful resources just around the corner at the Upper Coomera Community Centre – a heated pool no less. This is aimed to improve or maintain an optimal level of health, fitness and well being . Bus outings are a big hit here at Magnolia with weekly shopping outings, scenic drives and lunch outings on the program, allowing our residents to be part of wider community and honestly haven’t met a lady who doesn’t enjoy a little shopping. On the Activities Program this year we have two new outings planned, both at the local Community Centre. One will be a full day, swimming for those who would enjoy this activities, or the local Librarian has offered to teach those interested the use of computers and the internet, this will be followed by lunch at the Café, best Fish n Chips in the area, the other activity will be a monthly Seniors get together with different activities planned for each month at the library, great opportunity to socialise with those in the wider community.
Australia Day We had planned to have a BBQ to celebrate Australia Day, but due to the hot weather decided to keep activities until the afternoon and enjoy a lovely roast lamb for lunch instead. The staff enjoyed decorating the activity areas with the help of some larrikins (staff and residents alike).
The lovely Deb Cox entertained us for Happy Hour in the afternoon, along with help from a few of the residents, nice to see a few of you up on the dance floor guys.
Employee of the Year Award
This year the management of Magnolia CPSM Care have introduced an Employee of the Year Award
(named: Kathy Jones Award) for Dignity, Respect and Commitment, which is presented to one staff
member at each of their facilities on a yearly basis. On Monday the 23rd January 2017, the first
winner of this award at Magnolia Aged Care Coomera was announced and presented with this
trophy. The lovely Toni Sanele, who has been working at Magnolia Aged Care, coming up to six
years is a well-deserved recipient of this award for her outstanding efforts in 2016 and was
congratulated by Shane, Cliff, Kathy and Suzanne, Congratulations from all the Staff and Residents to
the lovely and much respected Toni, who is always willing to go the extra mile for the Residents at
Magnolia. A well-deserved winner. You can view this award hanging in the reception area.
