1. Hypertonic solutions• Plant cells the central
vacuole loses water and the cells shrink causing wilting.
• Animal cells shrink (plasmolysis)
2. Hypotonic Solution• Plant cells CV fills with
water, plant becomes stiff and rigid, CW keeps the plant from bursting
• Animal cells swell, may burst (“LYSIS”)
3. Isotonic solutions
• Plant cells• Equilibrium
• Animal cells - water moves back and forth – no change – GOOD!!!
