Opening Prayer

In our continuing catechesis,

today we consider the Church as God’s temple.

The great temple of Solomon in Jerusalem,

a place of prayer and encounter with the Lord, was a prefigurement of the Church.

Jesus Christ, the Incarnate Son

who dwelt among us,

is Himself the definitive and living Templewhere we encounter

God’s presence in our midst.

Christ makes us, the member of His mystical body,“living stones” for the construction

of a “holy temple in the Lord” (Ephesians 2:21),

in which we exercise

our baptismal priesthood

by offering spiritual sacrifices.

The Holy Spirit in the variety of His gifts,

unites us and enables us

to contribute the building up

of the Church in holiness.

In this great work, each of us has a part to play;

each of us, as a “living stone”,

is needed for the growth

and the beauty of God’s holy temple.

Let us ask the Lord to help us

to take an ever more active part in the Church’s lifeand mission, guided by the Holy Spirit and withJesus as our cornerstone. from The Creed, Pillar I Ascension Press

Prayer of Pope Clement XI

Lord, I believe in You; increase my faith.I trust in You; strengthen my trust.

I love You;

let me love You more and more.

I am sorry for my sins; deepen my sorrow.

I worship You as my first beginning.I long for You as my last end.

I praise You as my constant helper.

And I call You as my loving protector.

I want to do what You ask of me:

In the way You ask,

for as long as You ask, because You ask it.

Let me love You, Lord, as my God.

And see myself as I really am

a pilgrim in this world

A Christian

called to respect and love

all those lives I touch.

Oh when the saints go marching inWhen the saints go marching inOh Lord I want to be in that numberWhen the saints go marching in

When the sun begins to shineWhen the sun begins to shineLord I want to be in that numberWhen the sun begins to shine
