Signature of agreement between the Mexican Academy of Sciences

and Academy of the Dominican Republic as of November 21, 2007,

Mexico.

We proceeded to sign an interinstitutional agreement

between the Academy of Sciences of the Dominican Republic and the

Ministry of Education.

Opening of the educational workshops

Creation of the National Committee for Support of the "Science

Teaching in Schools, February 2009, after two years of work.

Training of 61 teachers and technicians from the Ministry of the Dominican Republic by five experts from Chile, Colombia and Mexico.Participants were presented with

Involved public authorities and the National Committee began with the training that included all teachers, technicians from the Ministry of Education, the UASD, the UNPHU and the Academy of Sciences of the Dominican Republic.

In the second period, we intend to integrate the two main universities in the training of teachers in the Dominican Republic in their curricula ECBI Method.

It was agreed to use the modules: Chile, Colombia and Mexico, adapting them to the Dominican culture. They will then be validated and retrofitted for use throughout the country.

Barriers, constraints and challenges

Ignorance by the authorities and teachers of the method and its advantages ECBI.Initial resistance.Postponement of the start of the pilot plan development progress of the school year when I finish the training process for teachers and technicians.Changing the education minister and the process of readjusting their technical team.Electoral process.Slow approvals.Adaptation of the modules donated by the Ministry of Education.Lack of adequate knowledge of teachers in the use of computers and access to hardware.

Despite all this we have made and will make every effort to ensure that these obstacles are placed in a point not prevent us to implement fully the pilot plan designed to start this school year 2010-2011.

To strengthen the startup and ongoing monitoring of the pilot we plan to hire two experts from Chile, for a period of one month in early August of the school year 2010-2011.

The leaders of the Academy of Sciences of the Dominican Republic that will monitor and accompany the 12 schools where the program will be implemented in Science are:

Proposal for the assembly of the Ottawa IANAS

I propose five programs for the new period of IANAS:

1. Capacity building and institutional strengthening.2. The expansion of regional international relations.3. The development and strategic planning IANAS.4. The publication of a regional scientific wages.5. Outreach Program academies wings to influence national policies on science and technology and innovation.6. Stress the need to incorporate the science of diplomacy in resolving global agreements required to stop global warming, climate change and preserving biodiversity and ecosystems.
