JAMMU, June 12: Asthere is no respite from hotweather conditions, the wintercapital of the State yet againrecorded the hottest day onTuesday, with maximum tem-perature touching 41.5 degreeCelsius.

Jammu yet again witnessedhottest day as the mercury start-ed soaring, after a spell of freshrains.

"Due to rains last week, thetemperature, which was 5 to 6degrees above from normal, hadcome down, but it again startedsoaring and on Tuesday, themaximum temperaure wasrecorded at 41.5 degreeCelsius," said the weatherman.

He said the minimum tem-perature was recorded at 27.2degrees.

He predicted mainly clearsky for Wednesday, with themaximum and minimum tem-peratures likely to remainaround 42 degrees and 27degrees, respectively.

Meanwhile, the hill sta-tions across Jammu region,including Bhaderwah,Patnitop, Nathatop, Sanasar,Kishtwar and Bani, are wit-nessing heavy rush of visitors,in view of heat wave condi-tions in the plains.

All Government and privateschools are closed, in view ofsummer vacations from June 4to July 23.

The Government todayadded ten Swachh Iconic Places(SIP) under phase III of its flag-ship programme, SwachhBharat Mission.

Raghavendra Swamy Temple(Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh),Hazardwari Palac (Murshidabad,West Bengal), Brahma SarovarTemple (Kurukshetra, Haryana),Vidur Kuti (Bijnor, UttarPradesh), Mana village (Chamoli,Uttarakhand), Pangong Lake(Leh-Ladakh, Jammu &Kashmir), Nagvasuki Temple(Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh), ImaKeithal/market (Imphal,Manipur), Sabarimala Temple(Kerala) and Kanvashram(Uttarakhand) have been taken upunder Phase III of the flagshipproject of Swachh Iconic Places(SIP) of the Swachh BharatMission, an official statement

said. These sites have joined the

20 iconic places selected underPhase I and II where special san-itation work is underway.

The iconic places includedin Phase I of the project in 2016include Ajmer Sharif Dargah,CST Mumbai, Golden Temple,Kamakhya Temple, MaikarnikaGhat, Meenakshi Temple, ShriMata Vaishno Devi, ShreeJagannath Temple, The TajMahal and Tirupati Temple.

The Phase II launched inNovember, 2017 includedGangotri, Yamunotri,Mahakaleshwar Temple,Charminar, Convent and Churchof St Francis of Assissi, Kalady,Gommateswara, BaidyanathDham, Gaya Tirth and Somnathtemple.

The SIP project envisionedby Prime Minister NarendraModi is being coordinated bythe Ministry of Drinking Waterand Sanitation with the support

of state Governments and localadministration.

A consultation is in processfor finalising the PSUs/corpo-rates for extending support tothe new sites as CSR partners,the statement said.

Speaking at the launch of thethird phase of the project inMana village in Uttarakhand,Parameswaran Iyer, secretary,Ministry of Drinking Water andSanitation, said under thescheme, the Government wouldtake up initiatives like improved

sewage infrastructure, drainagefacilities, installation of sewagetreatment plant (STP), improvedsanitation facilities and watervending machines (WaterATMs).

He added that solid and liq-uid waste management (SLWM)set-up, structure restoration,roads maintenance, lightingarrangements, beautification ofparks, better transport facilitiesin approach and access areaswill also be taken up at the mainsites. (PTI)
