Suzuki Rational/Emotional Model Split

Small SUV segment growth forecast

Due to the market trend of downsizing and the persistently strong popularity of SUVs, the small SUV segment is expected to continue its growth as shown in the figure above. The new IGNIS was developed as one of the strategic models for the small SUV market with the goal of making a product with a unique concept that competitors did not have.

Buying behaviour analysis

After exhaustive study of what aspects SUV / crossover buyers consider important, the decision was made to develop a mini crossover that combines both design and utility. With a stylish exterior, designed with the “Simple & Iconic” concept, and a high seating position and high minimum ground clearance, the easy-to-drive IGNIS is sure to capture a wide range of new customers, particularly from the younger generation.

Geneva Motor Show 2015

Two new Suzuki models were revealed at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show - showcasing two distinct vehicles that would soon form part of Suzuki’s new product line-up.

Among Giugiaro’s repertoire of car designs, is the Suzuki Fronte Coupe/Cervo. This 1970’s Suzuki Cervo played an instrumental role in the design of the new Suzuki Ignis.

Other, more current, Suzuki design elements are also present in the new Ignis’s shape and design.

Ignis design heritage

• Headlight-in-grille design from 1970’s Cervo

• Sporty C-pillar slits from 1970’s Fronte Coupe / Cervo

• Black-out A and B pillar as part of the Swift’s iconic design

• Clamshell bonnet and fender garnish highlights Suzuki’s SUV design elements

Design - Exterior

FRONTThe strength of the IGNIS is expressed with a characteristic design that brings together the distinct impression of the headlights with the strong lines of the grille.

REARThe roof flows into the round, capsule-shaped cabin, supported by prominent fenders. Simple yet dynamically shaped rear combination lamps and bumper garnish complete the look.

Design - Exterior

SIDEThe robust shoulders suggest strength, while the surface of the lower body exudes expressiveness.

Extra headroom is ensured by making the roof rounded without spoiling the sleek design of the glass area.

Performance – EngineRenowned K12M 1.2 liter engine

Improved thermal efficiency

Higher compression ratio with redesigned water jacket and cooling jets for improved cooling.

Lower friction

Redesigned cylinder block and fuel pump.

Compact and lightweight

Angled and pendulum mounted engine.

Performance – Transmission options5-speed manual transmission

A 5-speed manual transmission that balances fuel efficiency and dynamic performance.

Equipped with a convergent locating system which increases suction for a better shift feel, the driver can enjoy light and precise gear shifts.

Performance – Transmission options5-speed Auto Gear Shift transmission

A 5-speed Auto Gear Shift transmission, Suzuki’s own automated manual transmission that operates the clutch and gearshifts automatically.

Not only does it deliver superb fuel efficiency and clutch durability, its hydraulics also enable prompt and smooth gear changes. AGS features a “creep” function, for easier driving in traffic or during parking.

Performance – LightweightNew-generation lightweight platform

High-rigidity underbody

With smooth and curving lines, the frame not only efficiently disperses the impact of collisions, but also maintains rigidity and lighter weight contributing to outstanding fuel economy and high driving performance.

Performance – LightweightNew-generation lightweight platform

50%of the Ignis’s body construction (in weight) consists of high-tensile steel.

High-tensile steel sheets are stronger, yet thinner than normal steel sheets. This helps reduce weight and improve fuel efficiency while maintaining rigidity.

Performance – DrivabilityNew suspension for nimble control

A new suspension system has been designed for the new-generation platform for improved lateral rigidity of the suspension mounts, which is key to driving performance.

The suspension itself has been lightened and strengthened.

Result: Suzuki’s highly acclaimed nimble driving experience: the car promptly goes exactly where the driver steers it.

Performance – DrivabilityGood handling, great off-road ability and excellent maneuverability.

Tight turning radius for ease of driving

A minimum turning radius of 4.7m provides excellent manoeuvrability, even on narrow roads and lanes.

Drivability – Urban Compact SUVAn ultra-compact SUV, built from the ground up.

SafetyTECT – Total Effective Control Technology

The IGNIS embodies Suzuki’s TECT concept for

occupant-protecting impact absorption and

lightweight performance. It features a rigid

frame structure that absorbs and efficiently

disperses the impact of a collision.

Safety - ActiveComprehensive active and passive safety features on all models

ABS brakes with EBD and BAS

EBD - Regulates the ratio of front and rear brake

pressure. As the vehicle load conditions change, the

system ensures that maximum braking efficiency of the

rear wheels is achieved. The benefit is minimal stopping

distance under varied conditions.

Safety - ActiveEnhanced road safety with best-in-class light projection and illumination.

LED Daytime Running Lights

Improved visibility for other road users during daytime driving.

LED Projector Headlamps

Superior road illumination during night-time driving.

Safety - PassiveComprehensive active and passive safety features

Dual front SRS airbags

The IGNIS’ front airbags are designed to protect the driver and front passenger in a frontal collision. Mounted in the steering wheel and in the passenger side area of the dashboard, they inflate and deflate within a fraction of a second providing optimal restraint during a frontal impact.

Front seatbelt pretensioners with load limiters

ISOFIX child seat anchorages

Safety - PassiveSafety for other road users

Pedestrian protection

The bonnet, front bumpers and other parts of the body have impact absorbing structures that mitigate the extent of injuries in the event that the vehicle comes into contact with a pedestrian.
