Beginning in the Fall 2003, the OklahomaDepartment of Public Safety will beginissuing new Driver Licenses and Identifi-

cation Cards. These documents have a newlook; and provide a number of important fea-tures addressing those issues which makealtering, tampering or counterfeiting thesedocuments more difficult;

Every cardholder’s demographic information,digital portrait with ‘ghosted’ image, and twosignatures are printed onto a highly durableplastic card.

A ‘security’ laminate coating covers each card.This feature increases the durability and tamperresistance of the document.

Note that the orientation for all‘under 21’ cardholders will be verticalinstead of horizontal. Every cardshows the date when the individualturns ‘18’ or ‘21’. These features alsomake the card immediately recognizable as an‘under age’ document.

To identify documents at aglance, note the color ofthe Oklahoma mapportrayed on the bottomright corner of eachdocument: Blue for Driver

License, Yellow for Com-mercial Driver License (CDL)and Red for Identification Card

(ID). The color of document header will alwaysmatch the color of the map.

Two types of barcodes appear on the back ofthe License and ID. The horizontal two dimen-sional (2D) barcode contains demographicinformation found on the front of the card andthe vertical one dimensional (1D) barcodecontains document number and birthdate.

To protect the card holder, both the cardholder’s portrait and signature will be digitallystored at the Department of Public Safety andused for comparison when the document isrenewed or replaced.
