Editorial Policy. The Journal of Nuclear Medicine publishesseveral types of original articles: full length articles, concisecommunications, preliminary notes,casereports, technical notes,letters to the editor, editorials, and solicited articles of generalmedical interest. It is understoodthat manuscriptssubmitted forconsideration are original, including illustrations and tables,andthat the material submitted is not under consideration by anotherpublication.

ReviewProcedure.Submitted manuscriptsare reviewedfor contenton the basisoforiginality, significance, adequacyof documentation, reader interest, and composition. All manuscripts are reviewed by two refereesand the editorial staff. All acceptedmanuscripts are subject to editorial revisions for scientific accuracyand for clarity in the office of the editor.

Manuscript Format—General Information—An original and twocopiesof the manuscript with two sets of unmounted illustrations(glossies, preferably 5―x 7#) should be sent with a transmittalletter to the Editor.

I . Every typewritten page must be double-spaced,includingtitle page,abstract, text, references,legends,acknowledgments,and footnotes.

2. There should be a 2-in. margin on all sidesof typewrittenpages.

3. Referencenumbersshouldbeunderlinedandinparenthesesin the text.

4. Paragraphsshould begin with an indentation of at least fivespaces.

5. All pagesshouldbenumberedat thetopright-handsidewithout namesof the author(s) or title of the article.

6. Handwritten changesare not acceptable.7. Papersmust be written in English.8. Referencesinthetextshouldnotbemadetoinstitutionsor

localesexcept when mention of the institution, locale, or facilityis germane to that particular article.

9. Genericnamesshouldbeused.Manufacturersof instrumentsor radiopharmaceuticals should not be named in the manuscriptunlesstheir inclusion is absolutely essentialto the content. Whennecessary,however,manufacturers should be identified by footnotes.Consecutiveorder of footnote symbols is:@

Title Page.The title should be asshort as possible,with a maximum of 72 characters, including spaces.The first namesand degreesof all authors, the nameand addressof the department andinstitution where the work wasdone,sourcesofsupport (if applicable), and name and addressof author responsible for correspondenceand reprints should be included on the title page.

Abstract. Abstractsmust belimited to 150wordsor less,typedon aseparate page. Three key wordsshould be sent with proofs for indexing.

References. References must be typed double space on a separatesheet and numbered consecutively as they appear in the text.References included in a table or illustration are also numberedsequentially with those in the text. The Journal uses the IndexMedicus style for references.When more than three authors arelisted, the additional authors are listed as“etal.―Journal namesare abbreviatedaccordingto the Listoffournals Indexedin IndexMedicus.

Tables A table is a condensation of related data or facts arrangedin columns. Tables should be self-explanatory and should supplement, not duplicate, the text. Each table must be referred to innumerical order in the text. Illustrations. Since imaging is oneof the major aspectsof nuclearmedicine,the selectionof high-quality illustrations isof paramountimportance.Arrows, lettering, and numbersaddedto figuresmustbe of professionalquality. Original line graphs are preferred foroptimal reproduction.Figuresof inferior quality or damagedfigures as well as thosepoorly designedor badly lettered will bereturned to the author for correction, replacement, or deletion, ifindicated. A legend page with descriptive paragraphs for eachfigure, typed in numerical order with the abbreviation @‘FlG.―preceding each arabic number must be included.
