STOWE, GUNTER AND BARKLEY LEAD IN SENIOR SUPERLATIVES

Twelfth Grade Boys Give Their Choice In Military Services

The future of every boy in the Senior Class seems to run along the same line—service in the armed forces. Indeed, most of the fellows already have definite plans as to which branch of the service they

expect to enter. Several boys are awaiting call in the Army Air Corps, quite a number are trying for the Navy V-5 program, and some are just waiting to let se¬ lective sendee take its course

The election of senior superla¬

usual high interest, and the keen¬

est competition prevailed through- j

out the race.

On Tuesday candidates were

nominated for the various honors,

and some campaigning was done on

the part of individual students.

The following nominees ran for election:

Mr. VfuleSanders was the prin¬

The program was opened by the singing of “God Bless America” accompanied by the band, and the invocation by Superintendent Iv. G. Phillips. After the delicious tur¬ key dinner, which was served by the teachers, the guests, including Mr. and Mrs. Ashley and Mr. and Mrs. t Phillips, were introduced.

Mary Bryant then gave a recita¬ tion, and a skit was presented by several members of the band.

Catherine Morrow introduced the speaker, Mr. Wade Sanders, who kept the audience laughing with his unlimited supply of jokes.

jHS has lost one of its most

capable teachers to the Shelby High

School. Miss King, history and ex-

French teacher, left Tuesday, Jan¬

uary 25, to take up her duties as

head of the history department

there. She will teach American

history.

Miss King has taught at GHS

ever since her graduation from

Woman's College in Greensboro.

In college she majored in French

and minored in history. She is thor¬

oughly capable of teaching either.

All of us wish Miss King the

best of luck and are sorry .hat she

has left us, but we are also glad

to welcome back Mrs. McLean, who

will take Miss King’s place.

HORIZONS A BIG PART IN TODAYS VICTORY

and

A BIG PART IN TOMORROW’S PEACE

Because Gastonia’s industries were geared for war, few realize what a marvelous contribution our people and our mills have made to the war effort. Over 11,000 textile items are used by our^ fighting forces and these are necessary as are guns, planes and ships.

When peace comes, our textile products will flow again through former channels to supply the pent- up needs of civilians over the world.
