Revealed in the Gospel of Mark

Jesus’ Final Steps

Mark 14:1 Now the Passover and the Festival of Unleavened Bread were only two days away . . .

Jesus’ Final Steps

Mark 14:1 Now the Passover and the Festival of Unleavened Bread were only two days away, and the chief priests and the teachers of the law were scheming to arrest Jesus secretly and kill him.

Jesus’ Final Steps

Mark 12:37b The large crowd listened to him with delight.

Jesus’ Final Steps

Mark 14:1-2 Now the Passover and the Festival of Unleavened Bread were only two days away, and the chief priests and the teachers of the law were scheming to arrest Jesus secretly and kill him. “But not during the festival,” they said, “or the people may riot.”

Jesus’ Final Steps

Mark 14:3 While he was in Bethany, reclining at the table in the home of Simon the Leper, a woman came with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, made of pure nard. She broke the jar and poured the perfume on his head.

Jesus’ Final Steps

John 12:2-3 Here a dinner was given in Jesus’ honor. Martha served, while Lazarus was among those reclining at the table with him. Then Mary took about a pint of pure nard, an expensive perfume; she poured it on Jesus’ feet and wiped his feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.

Jesus’ Final Steps

Mark 14:4-5 Some of those present were saying indignantly to one another, “Why this waste of perfume? It could have been sold for more than a year’s wages and the money given to the poor.” And they rebuked her harshly.

Jesus’ Final Steps

John 12:4-6 But one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, who was later to betray him, objected, “Why wasn’t this perfume sold and the money given to the poor? It was worth a year’s wages.” He did not say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief; as keeper of the money bag, he used to help himself to what was put into it.

Jesus’ Final Steps

Mark 14:6-8 “Leave her alone,” said Jesus. “Why are you bothering her? She has done a beautiful thing to me. The poor you will always have with you, and you can help them any time you want. But you will not always have me. She did what she could. She poured perfume on my body beforehand to prepare for my burial.”

Jesus’ Final Steps

Mark 14:9 Truly I tell you, wherever the gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told, in memory of her.

Jesus’ Final Steps

Mark 14:10-11 Then Judas Iscariot, one of the Twelve, went to the chief priests to betray Jesus to them. They were delighted to hear this and promised to give him money. So he watched for an opportunity to hand him over.

Today’s Takeaways

1. Are you like Externally, your Christian walk looks “right on,” but in reality, your heart is far from God? Are you a man or a woman of integrity?

Judas?

Today’s Takeaways

Mark 7:6 He replied, “Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you hypocrites; as it is written: ‘These people honor me with their lips, but their lips are far from me.’”

Integrity is all about bringing all of life into a consistent whole. So your walk

matches your talk! Integrity is not perfection, but it is consistency!

Is this true of YOU?

Today’s Takeaways

“Integrity is the glue that holds our way of life together. We must constantly strive to keep our integrity intact. When wealth is lost, nothing is lost; when health is lost, something is lost; when character is lost, all is lost.”

Billy Graham

If you had a parrot that lived in your

house for some 20 years that had

really captured the ability to talk. . .

. . .Would you be willing to sell that parrot to the town gossip?

2. Mary’s story and her love for Jesus became wrapped up in Jesus’ story and his love for us! Is this true of YOUR story? Mark 14:9 Truly I tell you, wherever the gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told, in memory of her.

When you think of YOUR story, is it more

about YOU or is it more about Jesus

Christ? For Mary, she gave her most

valuable possession to Jesus. What are YOU holding back?

Today’s Takeaways

Mark 12:30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.

Romans 12:1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.
