Homework for next time…

• Complete the Language Strategy Use Inventory SA pp. 21-28 and bring it to class with you

• Read SA pp. 167-172; be prepared to discuss

Warm-up – Intercultural 1 minute paper

• In just one minute (timed!) you will write how you define Intercultural Competence and how a study abroad experience might help you to work toward increasing your intercultural competence

• 1 minute to think; 1 minute to write• Collect and redistribute to someone else;

then discuss briefly

What is intercultural competence?

• When you feel effective in the host culture and others see you as effective

• Any examples or personal experiences to share?

Activity: Double-Loop Thinking

• “Seeing Two Perspectives”

• Goal: to analyze a cross-cultural encounter from at least 2 perspectives – the viewpoints of both of those involved
