Dear Parishioners We are slowly coming back to some normality and it’s pleasing to see you all at Mass celebratingwhat is dear to you andme. DuringMass in the near future forms and penswill be given out for you to fill in asking for an update on your Address, Email Address,Cell Phone Number and Land Line, and Ministries you may wish to be involved in.During Covid 19 the government spoke of Levels we had to adhere to. We, in ourparish want to review our level of communication and involvement. This is ourparish church community and together we are going to grow even deeper with more involvement from everyone. While everyone is very important, we need to useour God given talents by prescence, prayer and involvement for the Glory of God.Pleasegivethisyourprayerfulconsiderationsowecanbecomeanevenmorevibrant,moreresilientparishcommunityinthespiritofJesusChrist.ctd next page

EditorialCourage Do we think of courage as a virtue? I am asking the question because I am reading, ‘No Friend but theMountains,’ Behrouz Boochani, an extraordinary book writtenintheprisononManusIslandwhereillegalboatpeople were shipped by the Australian Government to make a point to other asylum seekers. I think one hastoaskhowdesperateonehastobetogoonthePacificOceanindangerousunsafeboatstoanunknownplace.Theauthorofthebookwasthereforfivelongyearsand, being a journalist, wanted to write. Having no meanstodosoandsuchanactivitydeemedillegalanyway, heresorted to a smuggled phone and wrote text by text to a friendwho translated for him. I have trouble gettingstraightforwardwordsontextletalonereflectionsandpoetry from a place where there was never opportunity forsilenceorpersonalspace.Butletusgetbacktocourage.He,Boochani,hadsuchexperiences himself and saw more experiences from the peoplewithhimonthejourneyinaleakyboat.Forcedbythisheaskedalotofquestionsaboutcourage.Hewritesthatcouragehasaprofoundconnectiontohopelessness.We could condemn the riots in the USA over the death of George Floyd: there we see a similar kind of hopelessness that allows people the courage to face tear gas, rubber bulletsandbatons.Haveyouaskedyourselfwouldyouhave gone out? It takes a sort of foolishness that Behrouz Boochanisaysinalsoconnectedtocourage. Think about Jesus; His confrontation of the leadersand administration was just that sort of foolishnessthatcreatedcourage.Orinsuchcircumstancesdoeshe, and we, have to push ahead and do what seems to be rightwithouttime for good judgementor reflectionoftheoutcome.Perhapsthatishowthevirtueofcourageworks.Don’tworryabouttheoutcome,justdo.Tohavereal courage we have to be in extreme circumstances likewar,famine,andnowpandemic.Wehavewatcheddoctors,nursesandhealthworkers,seeminglyirrational,takingriskstosavethelivesofothers.OnAnzacDayweall did unusual things to remember and commemorate such acts of what we term bravery, but possibly foolish courage. I also wondered about Peace activists who practicenonviolence.ThefirsttimeIwalkedinaprotestmarchitdidtakecouragethatwasrelatedtofear.Boochaniasks‘Iscouragetheoppositeof fear?Or iscourageavirtuethat emerges out of the essence of fear? This to me is church when we take the opportunity to be fully committed to thechurch community we are proud to be part of.“Whatever you do, whatever you say, do it for the glory ofGod.”1.Corinthians10.Every Blessing. Fr. Wayne.
