2012-2013 WAAPP ASSISTED ADOPTED VILLAGES/OUTREACH SCHOOLS ACTIVITIES

Our Focus• To continue to impart rural women & Youths skills

and farmers knowledge in root and tuber crops production, processing and utilization as well as other relevant technologies in the locality.

• To enable end users utilize these technologies for business, income generation and household livelihoods.

• Continue to encourage the adoption of these improved technologies for job creation and to enhance and ensure food security.

Specifically:• To popularize and disseminate improved

technologies for large scale adoption.• Empower economically the resource poor farmers. • Create job opportunities for the youths.• Increase the percentage of school graduates who

go into agriculture.• Increase the number of students registering

ACTIVITIES• Meeting with communities/ village heads for site selection.• Establishment of demo farms (.5ha in each community -

cassava, yam and Sweet potatoes).• Cluster formation and facilitating groups.• Addition of 3 new communities/ 3 new schools in 2013• Capacity building- Training on value addition to R&T and

agronomic practices.• Integrated farming (crop production/Animal production-

Poultry in 2012, fisheries for 2013)• Partnership/ linkages- ADPS, Press, Govt., etc.• AROC (Upgrading 3 in 2012, establishing 3 in 2013) and

display of technologies and resource materials.• Farmers field day to be organized in 2013.• Innovation plat form instituted

OTHER ACTIVITIES • Pro-vitamins “A” cassava varieties was

planted in one outreach school.• Orange fleshed sweet potato was planted.• High yielding sweet potato with high

starch content for starch and glucose production.

• Group formation- young farmers club (YFC) and farmers groups.

ACTVITY PERIODS• Feb. 2012- meeting with farmers to map out work

plan for the farming season. • May- June- Distribution of improved cassava

cuttings to Farmers, already with farmers.• June- August - Establishment of Demo farms.• August- Sept. – planting of sweet potato• Oct.-Nov. – Establishment of AROC in 3 outreach

schools and late planting of cassava.• December- Harvesting of sweet potato and

• CONSTRAINTS1.The proposal made to integrate animal production like, poultry, fishery and piggery in the project was not possible in 2012 due to inadequate funding of the project.

• 2.Some activities like farmers field day, excursion by the young farmers club will be accomplished in 2013.

3.Project vehicle is very essential to enhance mobility of the workers in Adopted Villages & Outreach Schools.
