IMPORTANT DAYS FOR
PRE-K
Page 4
October was an excit-
ing month in pre-k.
The students are really
getting into the swing
of things, and we had
an excellent time at the
Pumpkin Patch. Thank
you to those of you
who volunteered your
time that day. I have
created a Parent Cor-
ner beside the Pre-K
door, which will have
updates and reminders.
This hopefully will help
with communication. I
also wanted to remind
you to put a change
of clothing in the bot-
tom of your child's
backpack in case of an
accident.
A note from Ms. Hofer...
The Theme of the month: SENSES
October was an ad-venturous month, as we observed the sea-son change around us. At the Pumpkin Patch we had a great time exploring. It is time to say goodbye to Octo-ber, and welcome in the cool breeze of No-vember. With this change in place, our sense are in overdrive, as they are taking eve-rything in. Throughout
the month of November we will be focusing on our five senses: taste, hearing, sight, smell, and touch. This issue will provide you, our Pre-K parents, related activi-ties, crafts, and story books that have to do with our senses. So take
a peek inside and enjoy!

and smelling.
There are five.
There are five.

willing to do so.
I put all the newsletters on this website, including the one you are reading right now. So if you ever misplace any, take a look on the
website.

Below is a schedule for the pre-k Show and Share. Your child’s job that day is to bring one small item to show the class, and share something about it. Please pay attention to the date that your child is scheduled. If your child
is not scheduled for November, then they will start in December.

STORYTIME: Books on our senses

My Five Senses by Aliki
This is an awesome book! It’s a great text to use when introducing the five senses. The book first explains each sense, “I can see with my eyes.” The text is accompa-nied with a correlating picture. The book
continues to give examples of how we use each sense and how each are com-monly used to-
gether.
Make Homemade Castanets
Most kids love musical instru-ments, and there's no reason to spend money buying them. You can whip up these castanets and kick up your heels in a flamenco
dance in a matter of minutes.
What You Need:
Cardboard
Safety scissors
4 bottle caps
A hammer
Superglue, glitter, markers,
and other decorations
What You Do:
1. Parents: being careful to keep your child's fingers out of your workspace, flatten the
bottle caps with a hammer.
2. Draw two wide strips with rounded edg-es onto the cardboard and allow your child to cut them out, using the safety
scissors. Fold each in half, so they look like duck bills.
3. Put a dab of glue on the jagged edge (the bottom) of each bottle cap. Glue one to the top and one to the bottom of the inside of each piece of cardboard, so the bottle caps meet when you close
the cardboard “duck bills.” This is a job for adults only.
When the glue is thoroughly dry, let your child decorate them with markers, glitter, or whatever else he fancies. Once they're dry again, hand your child the castanets and show him how to press the upper
and lower cardboard together so the bottle caps meet and click.
