Year Seven… Why Do We Do It?The Kiwanis Holiday Lights core group get asked quite a bit about why we put in the time to set up this display . In some cases, we put in over 1,000 hours of volunteer time . That’s right, Kiwanis Holiday Lights is 100% volunteer driven . Quite often we hear “You must be burnt out,” or “I could never put in that amount of time” and of course “Why do you continue to put in all the hours?” The short answer for me is: I truly enjoy seeing joy on other people’s faces when they come thru Kiwanis Holiday Lights . I was recently told a story about how one gentlemen asked a volunteer about our Military Display . The man asked what it was all about and why we do it . The answer was simple; for that area of the park we wanted a special spot to thank all the branches of the military for their service . The man then stood there, got emotional with a tear in his eye and simply said “thank you .”
Everyone on the Kiwanis Holiday Lights Board of Directors wants you to know that we put a lot of thought and care into the park and hope that everyone finds a little bit of joy as they visit . Take as much time in the park as you need and make sure you see it all . If you can’t do it in one visit, please feel free to keep coming back!
