NOT THREE GODS - JUST ONE

John 10:22-33

GODFAT

HOLY SPIRIT

The question was not a sincere desire for truth but a reflection of hostility:

• "How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are the Christ, tell us plainly"

“Christ” is the Greek equivalent of the Hebrew “Messiah” = ‘the coming One”; or “the promised One”

Something you are forced to believe has no power to save.

• Saving Faith must be a voluntary choice of the will.

EXPLORE THE PROOFS OF HIS MESSIAHSHIP

Jesus gave convincing proofs…

• but they must be subjectively accepted.– It’s called FAITH

"The miracles I do in my Father's name speak" (v 25b).

• The Father would not reward an imposter with consistent success.

• These good deeds match the predictions of what the Messiah would do. – "...the Lord has anointed me to

preach good news to the poor...bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners..." (Is 61:1-2)

Calmed the stormy sea

"you do not believe because you are not my sheep"

• Jesus is saying that relationship conditions response to truth.

• By their own choices they have placed themselves outside his fold.

• Spiritual blindness is a consequence of our rejection of truth.

The Eternal Life which Jesus gives…

• …is something that no combination of outward forces can deprive them of.– "Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?"

(Rom 8:35-39). – This is not "unconditional" but rather it is a

security that is steadfast. • The power is in our own moral choice.• No other person, nor circumstance, can trump

our moral choice.

ACCEPT HIS RELATIONSHIP TO THE FATHER

"My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all" (v 29).

• Personal "my".

• Relational "Father".

• Giver of gifts and privileges "who has given".

• Greatest "is greater than all" - including the Son.

"no one can snatch them out of my Father's hand."

• The greater gives to the lesser without losing a thing.

• The Father gives to the Son without losing control.

MARVEL AT HIS UNITY WITH THE FATHER

the THREENESS and ONENESS of God can be confusing.

• But His fingerprint is everywhere in nature:– Triangle (Three sides but one

triangle)

– Apple (Peal, meat, core)

– Egg (Shell, white, yoke)

– Tree (Roots, trunk, leaves)

– Water (solid, liquid, gas)

GOD

Let's establish some facts. • The Father, the Son and

the Spirit are God.

• The Father is not the Son and the Son is not the Father.

• The Father and the Son have a UNITY of relationship.

IS NOT

Let’s avoid the errors:

• Thinking of them as totally separate. – Tri-theism

• Thinking of them as one and the same person. – Modalism

• Thinking that by becoming one with Christ, we become God too. – Mysticism

We Can Conclude:

Jesus is God and is one with the Father.

• But he has come in the flesh.

• Jesus became our sacrifice on the cross.

• He is our pattern for living well.

By a voluntary acceptance of who he is and what He does, we place ourselves within His sheepfold.

• He becomes our personal shepherd and gives us Eternal Life.

• No one can snatch us away.
