About North Brisbane 4wd Club
Our club was formed from a group of like minded 4wd enthusiasts who saw an
opportunity to develop a four wheel drive club within the fast growing Northlakes
region, and with a dedicated committee, North Brisbane 4wd Club was born.
All of the founding members have children who share the love of four wheel
driving, camping and social activities. The club maintains a family focus and
aims to offer a range of events to suit all members, with mild, wild and social
trips.
We encourage everyone to come along a be a part of our trips; whether you
have just purchased your first four wheel drive, or you are an experienced driver
bringing new track knowledge to the club.
So please feel free to grab a magazine, drop into a meeting to say ‘hi’, or come
along on one of our trips to check us out!

Welcome to the January magazine and Happy New Year! Bring on 2018 NB4WDC. Now I don’t want everyone to think I’ve gone all deep and meaningful, but I am certainly reflective on the year that was. We started from a small group on Facebook some years back, and earlier in 2017 we became an incorporated club, and we grew. When I think how lucky I was to make new friends, reconnect with old friends and have some amazing trips throughout the year, I
can sum it up in one word, unbelievable! What we have is a genuine four wheel drive club that is member and trip focused. We keep it simple and it works. We finished the year off strong with a BBQ fundraiser at Meatland Northlakes (thanks Jamie and the team). Big thanks to Peter Borg, Ben and Bradleigh Foster, Troy Window, Tom Elliot, Jake Kenyon and Whitey for your help on the day, and special thanks to Sharon Pyyvaara to organising the event. The guys did a terrific job. Rose and I had to go early to help Ashleigh from hospital (she’s ok) and the message back from everyone was when I checked how it was going was “We are fine, just look after your family and don’t stress”. This is the essence of what we are about! We help each other. The BBQ was a good opportunity to raise some funds for the club, but also raise the clubs profile in the Northlakes area and we have more events to come this year. We also had Presidents Trip to Swan Gully Adventure Park after rain cancelled my forestry trip, but hang onto your hat, it will be on early this year! Swan Gully has many hills, great views and some challenging tracks, but was a great day to somewhere the club hadn’t been too, we love checking out new places! Now, what will 2018 bring us? I see lots of trips and socials, BBQ breakfast by the beach, Rover Park, forestry trips to Bellthorpe, Kenilworth, Benarkin, I see Crow’s Nest trips, Fraser Clean up, Sundown, Witta, Clean Up Australia events just to name a few……...looks like a very full on year, and I haven’t even mentioned recces yet! Remember if you want to go to the Fraser Clean Up 18-21st May you need to add your name to the trip sheet, pay the club directly and reference FICU 2018. Yes it’s a way off, but registrations close 1st March. I also want to welcome Jake Kenyon to the committee as the clubs Webmaster. Jake is a great young guy that has been very enthusiastic and active in the club. Thank you for your help. We had a lot of new members to the NB4WDC family in December. It gives me great pleasure to welcome Daniel and Rebecca Jones, Brendan and Vanessa Botha, Richard Krenn, Bruce Cresswell and his partner Narelle Kerr, Andrew and Irene Coventry, Christian Coventry, Stephen and Katrina Howe, Hamid Nia and his wife Elaheh Jafari. I can’t wait to see you out on the tracks in 2018.
Page 6
Presidents Page By Greg Facey
We also have a new major sponsor for the club in ARB Northlakes. Andrew, Lyndon, Paul and Macca have already helped a number of members in the club and we appreciate their support. Please make sure you drop in and say hi to the guys. I have personally known Lyndon for many years who is a great guy and very helpful as is the rest of the ARB team. Please join me in making them welcome. Well, there’s a great start to 2018 and a lot to look forward to, but we seem to have the same problem as last year, just too many trips and just not enough weekends……….. Be safe, have fun and I look forward to seeing you out on tracks! President Greg

Trip Report
Presidents Trip Written by Greg Facey
Swan Gully 4wd Trip – Well it was meant to be the Presidents Mystery Trip (Amamoor), but the rain played havoc with my original plans, so let’s do Plan B. Plan B involved a 4wd Park, so I had to let everyone know as there was park entry fees, but it was a mystery as the club hadn’t been there before. Many years ago it was part of Swan Gully is the Old City View 4wd Park, but I hadn’t been there for many years, so it was still a bit of a mystery…….and as our namesake says, where the adventure begins! Great turn out for the trip with 9 cars with Glen, Mike, Daniel, Hamid, Richard, Bretto, Ben and Peter. Swan Gully is just out near Beaudesert, so not too far to go for a day drive, probably took us about 80 mins to get there from the clubhouse with my expert navigational skills (cough cough). There had been rain around, so we were a bit worried about how slippery the tracks would be as its very hilly terrain. Luckily with some wind and sunshine it dried out pretty good. It wasn’t long before we were aired down and ready to hit the tracks.
There are some challenging hills out here, I took one group around the main route and Ben took the rest of the group up some harder hills. We knew they were having fun from the conversations on the radio. My group found a great spot on top of a ridge where it was green, a great breeze (it was such a hot day) and some shade and we waited for the rest of the group to catch up. I did find a spare 80 series mud flap that was on the side of the track, so more spare parts for Ben. We headed down the rest of the ridge back onto the main track.
Page 21
Some of the fellas were having a play in the gullies in the play area which was pretty good fun, until I found out the rear locker wasn’t working as a wire had broken off, bugger and I was sentenced to wear the hat of shame…but don’t let that stop us! We played on a couple of really short, steep and rutted tracks that we tried and got up, I struggled a bit with an open diff in the rear, but we made it to the top.
After lunch we headed back up on a ridge on the other side of the park. Richard had gone ahead to the very top and got some great pictures of the cars coming along the mountain ridge line. Spectacular views all the way out to Brisbane city, and we found some great little camping spots. The hills were very steep with side angles going back down, which was ok in the dry. In the wet it would
have been a toboggan ride to hell. We had no dramas as it was dry and eventually back out onto the main track. There were plenty of side tracks to explore, so we will be back to check them out, it’s what we do! We found a nice shady spot to air up, but my compressor died on the last trip and forgot to buy one (yes I will be around the ARB soon for an upgrade, Peter and I have already been in there). Anyway thank to Richard and his twin compressor set up in the back of the Ranger which twin hoses, I was aired up in no time. Great day out with great mates and some new friends. And the best part was that even though I forgot the compressor and the rear locker wasn’t working, as it’s the president’s trip I read somewhere that I can’t get fined………..I’m sure that’s correct isn’t it? Thanks again to everyone for making it a great day out.
