The rollout of free GPcare for children agedunder 6 is good newsfor Galway families.Many people worryabout the cost ofbringing their child tothe doctor andparents often have tobring young childrento the doctor acouple of times ayear. Therefore, freeGP care for childrenunder 6 will make areal difference to afamily’s householdbudget.

Labour in Government hasalso ensured that adults aged over 70 will benefit from free GPcare. This means that from this summer, over 40,000 people in Galway will have free access to theirGP.

This is the first step in the phased introduction of a universal, free GP service. It is an importantmilestone in achieving Labour’s priority of enhancing primary care and keeping people well in theirown community.
