Year 12s leave in a blaze of glory.
After a wonderful breakfast the
Year 12 students celebrated their
last day by greeting every student
as they lined up around the
courtyard. They shook hands with
each student before receiving
flowers from a Prep students.
Photos of every Year 12 student
were taken so if you would like a
copy please contact Weal Elias at
the College.
New enrolments keep us busy
With the support of Bishop
Suriel's Bishop's scholarships, a
growing reputation from good
results and new buildings, we have
been kept busy with new students
enrolling for 2012. We welcome
back many students who had left
earlier and are returning to St
Anthonys. We also need your
enrolment return form. If you have
not returned this to St Anthonys
by now we cannot guarantee your
child a place for 2012 because many
classes are in mid 20s already. Please ring
Michaela at the College if you have not
returned the forms yet.
Fund-raising hits new heights
Throughout the term the students have
been involved in many fund-raising
activities for a wide range of
organisations as well as end of year
activities. Thank you for supporting our
students as they take part in the world
affairs outside the College and outside
Australia. Their latest event is collecting
food to make Christmas a lot happier for
those people in need. This is through the
Salvation Army, so if you can help send
food-stuff to the College.
With the warmer weather our swimming
program has resulted in the obligatory
Prep parade past my office on the way to
the bus. I thought I would share this won-
derful moment with you. They had a great
time and learning to be safe around water
is essential for children in Australia.
THANK YOU for your COLES/
Woolworths vouchers
After a few months, many TV
advertisements and your chil-
dren asking you to go to Coles I
can report that you sent in
about 10,000 Coles vouchers.
This will be swapped for sport-
ing equipment for the students,
and it will be a huge collection
this year. We also had enough
Woolworth vouchers to buy a
whole set of new Prep readers.
Thank you for your support.

Thirteen years of Primary and
Secondary culminated last
Thursday when a nervous and
excited group of Year 12
students began their final
V.C.E examinations. The
9:00am start to the English
and E.S.L. exams began the
two week exam period at St
Anthonys.
Most of our
Year 12
cohort will
sit five
exams
during
that
period, with the last exam,
Business Management, taking
place on Friday, November 18th. I
am sure the students have maxi-
mised their study time to the
best of their ability in prepara-
tion for these final Secondary
hurdles.
Regardless of their results, they
are all to be complimented on
their efforts over the last year,
and while they wait for the
A.T.A.R. may be filled with
anxiety it is worthwhile to note
that this ranking is only one
measure of achievement. Some
who dont reach their
desired score will no doubt be
disappointed but our society is
filled with people who have
achieved
success in a variety of areas with-
out having wonderful results in
their secondary schooling. Success
can be achieved via a variety of
avenues, an A.T.A.R. is simply one
of those. Perhaps, more to the
point, in six months time
no-one is going to ask you what your
A.T.A.R. was, nor are they going to
care.

The new library is going
well, but there are many

this year. Could everyone

Dear Parents of Year 9
& 10 students,
As part of the senior
school program, stu-
dents in Year 9 and 10
attended camp earlier
this term at CYC Forest
Edge. It was wonderful
to see all students en-
joying each others com-
pany as well as the ac-
tivities offered at the
camp. St Anthonys
uses camps such these
to strengthen the rela-
tionships between stu-
dents and I believe that
this year was a great suc-
cess of this. I would also
like to take this opportu-
nity to thank Mr Haber for
organising and running
the camp as well as Mrs
Priest and Mr Awad
(Ayman) for their excellent
efforts on camp. Parents
please note that year 9
and 10 exams will com-
mence from the 6th of De-
cember. I would appreciate
if all parents aided their
children in preparing for
these exams, especially for
students in year 10 under-
taking a VCE exam.

Year 12 Graduation Din-
ner (Monday 21st No-
vember)
The Year 12 Graduation
Dinner will be held at
Merrimu Reception Centre
1300 Dandenong Road
(Opposite Chadstone
Shopping Centre) on
Monday 21st November. At
this point it looks as
though it will be one of
our biggest dinners ever.
I am looking forward to an
enjoyable evening of
celebrations.
Could I ask all guests to
arrive at 6.30pm so that
we can start by 7.00pm.
All students should be
aware of the dress
standard for the evening
and I ask them to ensure
that they adhere to
appropriate dress.
VCE Exams (Units 3 and 4))
We are currently in the
middle of VCE exams with
the English Exam being on
Thursday 27th October.
I wish students every
success in their various
exams and ask them to
ensure that they are well
rested on the evening
before their exams.
Results and change of
course preference.
VCE results and their
ATAR will be available to
students on Friday the
16th December 2012.
Students should check
their course preferences
to see if they may need to
change their course
selections.
Change of Preference will
be open at this time but
will close on Wednesday
the 21st December at
5.00pm. I would suggest
that students take the
weekend to look at options
if the wish to change
preferences. See details
in Career News for help
with change of preference
and/or see me on the
Monday or Tuesday to
discuss change their
preference. Students
should not wait until late
Wednesday to change
preferences as the VTAC
system may get
overloaded and you may
have difficulty accessing
the system.
Year 11 Exams
Timetable for the year 11
examinations is as follows.
Wednesday 16th
November:
SWOTVAC (a study day
for students)
Thursday 17th November:
Maths Methods
English
Accounting
Chemistry
Friday 18th November:
General Mathematics
Legal Studies
Physics
Biology
2012 Orientation
2012 orientation classes
are to be held on the
week beginning Monday
5th December. This week
will an introduction and a
commencement of next
year courses. All current
year 10 and 11 students
are expected to attend
these classes to ensure
that they cover the
relevant work and
receive any holiday
homework. I classify this
week as week one of
their studies and it
would be a shame to
start VCE next year one
week behind.

The beginning of this term in
PE has seen a rush of
activity with our Year 7 & 8
Basketball day, Year 9 & 10
Basketball day and Athletics
all being held in the space of
two weeks
Our year 7 & 8 teams
competed well throughout
the day, with a number of
teams recording wins. Our
year 7 boys team missed the
final by percentage only, a
fantastic effort. Best
players in year 7 were Meron
Negassi, Majok Kuok, Ashwin
Abraham, Hannah Yor, Miral
Botros, Maria Morks. And the best
players in year 8 were Andrew
Girgis, Laval D.J Louis-Jean,
Emmanuel Duoth, Marina Kier,
Magdelina Kier, Marina Markis.
On the year 9 & 10 day, three of our
four teams made finals, with the
year 9 boys and year 9 girls going
down narrowly in both games. Again
the year 10 boys continued their
domination of their division this year
by recording a win in the final, and
going through the day undefeated.
Best players throughout the day
were Rafik George, Emmanuel Otaw,
Wiaa Puot, David Abdel-Malek, Tarik
Negassi, Waki Puoch, Nazrate
Negassi, Rebecca George, Nyawal
Wicthiel, Miri Hothnyang, Liya
Meskel, Shirin Shakour and
Tamara Tadross.
Our athletics day held on Friday
4th November saw us enter a
record number of events with
some outstanding results. Feavn
Gebramariam won the 13 girls
triple jump, Nazrate negassi won
the 15 girls Discus, and a number
of other competitors placed in
the top 4 for their events.
Place getters on the day were:
