Study in Germany-Annual Sympo-sium, 24th January, 2015
The 2015 edition of the annual Symposium on
Study and Research in Germany which is
organised by the DAAD in collaboration with
the German Embassy and the Goethe Institut
will take place on January 24th, 2015 at the
Goethe Institut (located next to NAFTI, East
Cantonments, Accra) at 10am prompt. The
programme will end at 1.00pm.
It will provide students and interested
participants detailed information on all issues
concerning studying or doing research in
Germany, student visa requirement and
learning German in Ghana.
Topics will include international degree
programmes taught in English language,
DAAD scholarships, language proficiency
and many more. All students, SSSCE and
WASSCE holders, graduates, professionals
and parents are welcome.

Fairs and tours in the last quarter
of 2014 The DAAD Campus tours took place in all the
four campuses of the University for Develop-
ment studies( (UDS). These were namely,
Tamale, Nyankpala, Wa and Navrongro. The
Winneba campus of University of Education
Winneba was the final stop.
DAAD Information Center in Accra is espe-
cially grateful to all those who made this pos-
sible on their various campuses.
The DAAD Information Center Accra was also
present at the 12th Ghana International Book
Fair. Among the visitors were a number of
students as well as pupils and parents.

Freshmen Session for entry in summer
2015
Students who have gained admission to the various
study programmes in Germany starting in summer 2015
(i.e. entry in March or April, 2015) are invited to attend
this useful networking session for freshmen.
This will afford you the opportunity to meet with other
students who might be going to your same town or re-
gion or perhaps meet with students in the same subject
area.
The session will involve a 45 minutes interactive pres-
entation by the Director of the DAAD Information Center
Accra and a 30 minutes of knowledge sharing and ex-
perience sharing with invited DAAD alumni as well as
other Germany alumni.
Do not miss this session even if you have not completed
your visa formalities.

Monthly Introductory Sessions at the DAAD
Information Center Accra
The DAAD Information Center Accra organizes monthly
introductory sessions every first Thursday of the month.
This is usually a one hour presentation followed by ques-
tions regarding general application procedures, DAAD
scholarships, overview of visa requirements and proce-
dures.
It is mandatory to attend one of these sessions before
coming for a one-on-one discussion during our regular
consultation hours if you do not already have an admis-
sion or a scholarship.
The dates in 2015 are as follows:
5th February / 5th March / 2nd April / 7th May / 4th June /
2nd July / 6th August / 3rd September / 1st October /
5th November / 3rd December
Everyone interested in studying or doing research in
Germany is welcome to attend. It always starts at 4pm
prompt.

WACCI-New member of the DAAD African
Regional Network programme
The West African Centre for Crop Improvement (WACCI)
is now the new addition to the list of centers under the
DAAD African Regional Network programmes.
The center was established to train plant breeders
with expertise to improve the indigenous crops that
feed the people of the West and Central African sub-
region. The WACCI plant breeding training
programme (a PhD training programme) will produce
skilled, knowledgeable and properly resourced
breeders to breed locally important crops to meet
local needs and preferences.

DAAD research grants for senior univer-
sity academics
This is a DAAD grant which provides foreign
academics and scientists with an opportunity to carry
out research and continue their education in Germany.
The aim of this particular programme is to support
short-term research stays and thus promote the
exchange of experience and networking amongst
colleagues.
University teachers and established academics and
scientists who have usually completed a doctoral
degree and work at a university or research institute in
their home country.

DAAD scholarship holders
The aim of this programme is to enable former
scholarship holders to carry out research and
working projects in Germany and to maintain
contacts as part of DAAD's global alumni network.

Visiting Fellowship positions at the Uni-
versity of Bielefeld
The Bielefeld Graduate School in History and
Sociology has been established as a joint institution
of the Department of History and the Faculty of
Sociology at Bielefeld University, Germany.
Applications are invited from international doctoral
researchers who are working on a thesis in history,
sociology, political science, or social anthropology.

Green Talents Award 2014
We are happy to introduce to you Mr. Martin
Agyemang, a Ghanaian awardee of the prestigious
'Green Talents Award 2014'.
Out of more than 800 applications from over 100
countries, a high ranking jury of experts selected 25 up-
and-coming scientists.
For the sixth time, the Green Talents Award was
presented by German research minister Prof. Johanna
Wanka.
Since 2009, the German Federal Ministry of Education
and Research (BMBF) has held the prestigious “Green
Talents – International Forum for High Potentials in
Sustainable Development” to promote the international
exchange of ideas regarding green solutions. The award,
whose patron is Minister Professor Johanna Wanka,
honours 25 young researchers from around the world
each year.

International Climate Protection Fellowship
The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation promotes pro-
spective leaders from non-European transition and devel-
oping countries working in the field of climate protection
with the International Climate Protection Fellowships.
The fellows go to Germany for one year to conduct a re-
search-related project of their own choice together with a
host. They receive up to 2,750 EUR per month plus bene-
fits such as comprehensive family allowances, German
language tuition and a lump sum for travel expenses.
Applicants must be able to demonstrate clearly visible
leadership potential and existing involvement with issues
relating to the scientific, engineering, legal, economic or
social aspects of climate change.
Up to 20 fellowships are granted annually, funded under
the Federal Environment Ministry's International Climate
Initiative.
