Residential living for early to middle stages of Alzheimer’s disease and
related memory impairments. We also offer short term respite stays.
JMA ARCHITECTSJMA Architects has been in South Holland since its inception in 1954. Harold Jacobs (the “J” of JMA) was on the original planning committee when South Holland was built. After Harold’s untimely death in 2003, Jim Maciejewski became the sole owner of the business.
We are very fortunate to have a diverse, yet like-minded, family. We have diverse skills – Jim fills the architectural needs; Allison Maciejewski manages the HR/client development needs; Lisa Maciejewski takes care of our property/business management; and Jerry Maciejewski has an electrical engineering/construction background. We are alike in our shared vision and approach to our business. We all are hardworking, faith-filled, intelligent, compassionate individuals.
JMA offers construction management services in addition to architectural services. We have the ability to stay with our clients and projects from concept to occupancy. Some of our clients have been with us for over three decades. Some of our older local projects you may recognize include the Village Hall, the old Police Facility, the Public Library, the Thornton Township Building, and Holland Home. Some new projects we designed and constructed include the new Police Facility, Taft, Eisenhower, Madison, and Coolidge School renovations, and affiliated Barack Obama Learning Center. (We built the original Taft, Eisenhower and Madison as well). We also designed The LaSalle Business Park, the revitalized Veteran’s Memorial Park, the facility on the corner of South Park and 162nd, and Anytime Fitness.
We have a tremendous staff which includes 17 employees: 10 architects/architectural designers, four administrative personnel, and three project managers. On average, our employees have been with us for 10 years and one individual has worked with us for more than 30 years.
JMA not only participates and supports SHBA’s activities, but we also are active with the St. John Chamber of Commerce. We serve 11 school districts/corporations and actively support their fundraising efforts. We have supported Restoration Ministries’ Tabitha House Fashion Show for about a decade now and we support other causes including the Village’s Special Olympic Torch Run, pancake breakfasts, Easter egg hunt, memorial brick fundraiser, Independence Day Celebration, and the also the Lion’ Club.
We would be honored to meet with SHBA members and leaders to discuss how we can help them successfully accomplish their next project.

“Hot Fun in the Summer Time” is a hit from the 60/70’s R&B band Sly and the Family Stone. It is also what the South Holland Business Association wanted the members and guests who attended our July 26, 2018 Member Appreciation Picnic to experience. The day was picture perfect. Everyone seemed pleased to take a break from their workday to enjoy the friendly fellowship and FREE food. The menu had everything that would make a cookout complete including hamburgers and hot dog expertly grilled by Tim Woloszyn and Pat Rush; baked beans and buttery sweet corn jazzed up by Blevian Moore; seasoned and smoky ribs cooked to perfection by Kirk’s BBQ; and down-home potato salad whipped up by Kim Allen. The juicy watermelon and delicious cake that Walt’s Food Center provided and the popcorn and ice cones supplied by our friends at South Holland Bank were the perfect after meal treats.
Although the food and networking were the focus, the soothing massages provided by Marcia Cutright of Power of Touch Massage Therapy and the door prizes and drawing giveaways added to the fun.
Big thanks to all of our sponsors and volunteers who contributed to this event.

WHY IS A HEADLINE LIKE A POLICE SIREN?BY LARRY GALLER
We all know the alarming shock of seeing the flashing lights and hearing the piercing scream of a police car, fire truck, or ambulance, and we all know what to do when one of these vehicles comes into our hearing and visual range. We pull over to the curb and stop quickly.
That’s exactly the reaction we, as marketers, want to create when writing headlines for our marketing material.
Every copywriter will tell you that the headline is the most important part of a newsletter, print ad, article, website, brochure, or flyer. The writer works hard to write well-crafted headlines to stop the eye, grab it, and arrest it from straying. Police cars have sirens and flashing lights to stop the bad guys, grab and arrest them. Both headlines and sirens work to grab attention.
Headlines have the power to focus the eye and the brain on a provocative, curiosity evoking statement or question. If you don’t arrest the eye at the headline you will never get the reader to look at the body copy, so your audience will never bother to see the rest of your creative effort where you are extolling the features, the benefits, and the offer.
But writing headlines isn’t easy. Unfortunately, headlines rarely just show up on the writer’s blank page in a “flash-of-brilliance.” Like most creative endeavors, there is a process to writing vivid, eye-stopping headlines. It becomes easier if there is a process or system used repetitively so it becomes a natural part of the work.
Often, when writing advertising copy, a press release, or a business letter, the process many professional copy writers use is to write the body copy first then write at least ten possible headlines and sometimes as many as twenty-five. At times, this can be painstakingly difficult, but it is necessary to discover the best way to attract attention. Unless you are on a very tight deadline, it’s best to put the list aside for a few hours and review it later.
This “time out” allows the writer’s subconscious to add its own creativity to the effort. After the writing exercise and the “rest period,” the selection of the best, most evocative headline usually becomes evident. The next time you need to stop a reader’s eyes, try this arresting process and your headline will be just like a police car with siren howling and flashing lights. That will stop them from turning the page or clicking off your website.
