Day 2- a closer look at websites, read alouds, dictionary, & 21st Century Skills

After you have entered your web search, (I searched for early flights) a series of websites will come up for you to choose from.

*By placing a check in this box you are selecting this website to be saved to a folder you created. You may either check this box or select the check all icon to save all website shown.

To access website immediately simply choose to click on the title, This will bring you to the website (we will look at this later). You may even open another browser and copy and paste the sites url.

Before choosing this website, let’s look at the other features to determine if we really think this is the best website.

Here is a synopsis of what is in this website.

Here we have related strands these give more information about related topics. This will be explored on the next slide.

An overall rating is also listed. Websites are rated by teachers. The more checks the better the rating.

We have clicked aviation from the strands and were brought to this screen. On this screen we see sites for famous people of Trans-Atlantic Flight.

We have looked at overall rating using checks.

Now let’s examine the more button.

Search for a website on Newton’s Law. Make sure it has at least a four check

rating. Give the synopsis of site, list author, and

give 3 related strands. How good is the author’s credibility? How good is the subject depth? What is the url?

Who the site was evaluated by?

What do these legends mean?

Each picture icon represents different content that is available within website. Ex. Speaker indicates there is audio in website.

These icons represent what language is used in website.

Lists website name, url, description of information, related strands.

Publisher, overall rating, author credibility, & subject depth listed here.

This icon lets educator know that the material listed is controversial.

There is also a timeline available is this icon is present.

Now let’s look at readability levels.

The website lists the readability level.

The 4 stands for level 4 which equals a 9th-10th grade readability level.

On the legends page you can find the readability levels.

Here you see the Lexile level, ARI, and other reading information.

For more information click on the click here icon.

If you need different readability levels, languages, learning aids, subject, or different multimedia in your webpage simply click on these icons.
