Day 10: Explore Day in Manang for Acclimatization
Today is a rest day for acclimation purposes. Please sleep in! After waking up late we hike up to the tranquil
Gangapurna Lake and ascend up to above the Gangapurna icefall, which often falls down as an avalanche in the spring.
Take time to observe the wonderful ancient Manang village scene beneath you. It is important to have a relatively
restful day today to allow our bodies to acclimate to the higher altitudes and thinning air. It also gives us the possibility
to wash some of our clothing and visit the Himalayan Rescue Association of Nepal.
Day 11: Trek Manang to Tare Gumba (3870m) -4 to 5 hours
The trail to the Tilicho Base Camp heads out through the western gates and another one follows the path down to the
river. Anyway we cross it and continue on the south side of it through coniferous forest towards the Khangsar village.
Again we cross the Khangsar Khola on the bridge below Khangsar and ascend the slope to the village. After having

path is an old path much more difficult as it goes on a really steep screed. The latter is the new path that takes a
completely different way. It continues to ascend towards the line of the ridge where you have to be careful of falling
stones. Continue along the new path, reach a high crest, and descend on switch backs carved out through the screed

slopes to a side valley of the main valley. On the other side of this is a building known as Tilicho Base Camp at
elevation of 4,200 meters. Stay overnight at a basic guesthouse.
Day13: Trek Tilicho Base Camp to Tilicho High Camp (5,020m) -4 to 5 hours
Today, our journey starts early in the morning from the Tilicho Lake. We are trying to avoid the wind after sunrise so
be prepared for an early morning. To trek from base camp to the Tilicho Lake takes another 3-4 hours through the
desert uphill trail. Tilicho Lake is a cold barren place in the afternoon and claimed as highest lake in the world. The
view of breathtaking mountains and pure nature will magnetize you eyes towards the sorrowing majestic Himalayan
ranges. We make our campsites northeast of the lakeshore. We’ll stay overnight in our tents which have been carried
by our porters.
Day 14: Trek Tilicho High Camp via Mesokato La Pass (5099m) -1 to 2 hours, to Jomsom (2710m) -6 to 7 hours
After a very early hot breakfast prepared by our cook, the trail leads us to rather simple trailhead. The route ahead is
more far more complicated and demanding with two ways to go available. One way may cross the glaciers that come
down from Tilicho Himal but, unless one is equipped with complete ice climbing gear and the competence to use it,
this should only be attempted when the glacier is bare so all crevasses are visible. The second way traverses no less
than three minor passes in the mountains north of the lake. This account covers that route continues along the shore
to a little plain. Then leave the lake here and aim for a small saddle in the ridge above. The path ahead is rather steep
and there is plenty of lose screed and boulders. The first pass reached descends to a valley on the other side. Follow it
upwards and step on to a flat glacier. Then the trail switch backs down a very steep screed slope from Masokato La
Pass (5099m). This would be a crux if snow covered or icy. Descend to its bottom where there is a stream, and
continue holding slightly right to reach a point where a ridge with trees goes out in the valley. It goes in a long traverse
along the northern slopes high above Lampoghyan Khola towards Thini, reaching the valley floor first at Thini.
Continue on a short trek to Jomsom where the hotel awaits us. You can have a good time with local alcoholic
beverages 'Chang' or 'Rakshi or Jomsom brandy.
Enjoy the evening with your crewmembers in the
Nepali way.
