BACKGROUND AND CONTEXT

Investigations in terms of Section 106(1)(b) of the Local Government:

Municipal Systems Act, 2000 (Act 32 of 2000)

1. In terms of Section 106(1)(b) of the Municipal Systems Act the MEC must if the

MEC considers it necessary, designate a person or persons to investigate

allegations of maladministration, fraud, corruption or any other serious

malpractices when it occurs or is occurring in a municipality.

2. Attention is drawn to the fact that this report does not cover the written notices

issued in terms of section 106(1)(a) of the Local Government: Municipal

Systems Act, 2000 (Act No. 32 of 2000).

3. Herewith are investigations instituted by the MEC in terms of section 106(1)(b)

of the Local Government: Municipal Systems Act, 2000 conducted during the

period of April 2009 to date, namely:
