Shore Facilities- Spectacle Island

Armaments Depot 1865.

Longest continuously serving naval base in Australia.

Armaments work ceased in 1979 on the Island.

Now the Main Repository for the Naval Heritage Collection.

Shore Facilities – Garden Island

Originally a mooring area only.

Naval base built 1800 – 1895.

On-going infrastructure additions until present day.

Now includes Fleet Base -East.

Shore Facilities – Captain Cook Graving Dock

Build by the MSB 1941 – 1945.

Still the largest of its type in the Southern Hemisphere.

Repair & Maintenance only.

A strategic asset.
