Aromatic Grass
Aromatic grasses have been traditionally used in Indian and Chinese medicine because of their therapeutic properties.
Lemon grass is an aromatic grass that grows to a height upto five feet and is fast growing at the tropical regions of Asia and India.
Palmarosa grass is another aromatic grass which is a herbaceous plant with fragrant, grassy leaves and flowering tops. It also has highly powerful antiseptic properties.

Plantation & Maintenance of Aromatic grasses
As the aromatic grasses grow in the tropical regions, its cultivation depends on the specific climatic condition as well as on the fertility of the soil.
The seeds are planted at a distance of 40X40 cm, irrigation schedule is adjusted depending on the water holding capacity of the soil.
Plants are protected by taking certain pest control measures for the crop.

Storage of Oil
The essential oils are volatile oils extracted from the aromatic grass. This extraction process of the oil from the grass is known as oil distillation.

Different uses of left-over grass
The left-over aromatic grass leaves has been successfully utilized as a raw material for cellulose pulp and paper production.
The left-over grass is also known as spent grass and is useful for manufacture of card-boards or as fuel.
The spent grass is a source of good cattle feed and can be converted into green fodder.
