NARRATIVE fiction

A literary work of imaginative narration, either oral or written, fashioned to entertain and to make readers think.

Elements of A STORY

• Setting - the time and place in which the events of a story occur.

CHARACTERS- are the representation of a

human being in a story.CHARACTERIZATION- is

the method used by writers to reveal the

personality of the characters.

Kinds of charactersAccording to Principality• Protagonist- the leading

character in the story• Antagonist- is the character that

goes against the protagonist.• Supporting Characters – helps

the main characters in the story

According to development

• Dynamic- is the character who exhibits noticeable changes.

• Static- is the character who exhibits no changes and development.

CONFLICT- is the opposition of persons or forces in a story that give rise to the dramatic action in a narrative.• Types of conflict• Man vs. man• Man vs. himself• Man vs. animal• Man vs. nature

PLOT- is the sequence of events in the story.

Events that form a significant pattern of action with a beginning, a middle and an end

Parts of a plot• Exposition- is the part of

the plot that sets the scene by introducing the situation and settings.

Rising Action – the existence of conflict is exposed to the reader

• Climax- this is the point of greatest emotional intensity, interest, as well as suspense.

Falling Action – events that happened to resolve what had occurred in the climax

Denouement / Ending – the outcome of what had happened in the falling action. It is the event that presents a peaceful atmosphere or emotion.

Point of View- the angle in which the story is

being told

Types of point of view

–First person–Third person

• Theme- is the significant truth about life and its nature which takes place in the illustrations of actions and decisions of the characters.
