Nacton Church of England Primary Newsletter Summer 2 June 23rd 2017
Summer Fayre: A wonderful day was had by all and we raised a huge amount of money to go towards the school
for the next academic year. Many thanks to all the hard work to the NSA, who started planning the event months
ago. If you feel you have time to give to the school, please speak to one of the committee members or Miss Kidby.
Fire Risk Assessment Results: We recently had an assessment for fire safety. Our practice was commended and the
assessor said he was going to use our school as one of excellent practice to share with other schools. Our thanks go
to Mrs Byford (our Buildings and Premises Manager) and Mrs Whitman for all their hard work in ensuring the safety
for us all.
Nacton Cricket Club links: We are thrilled that we have established links with our
local Cricket Club, thanks to Dave Simmonds. Dave has played for Nacton for many
years and has been coaching our pupils in an afterschool club. We are very thankful
for his expertise. The children even entered the Ipswich schools cricket competition!
Aspirations: One of our parent governors, Mrs Angela Laithwaite, has a daughter
who is a barrister working in London. Miss Laithwaite kindly gave us her valuable
time this week and spoke to the pupils about her education (at Nacton Primary, then Kesgrave High School). We
especially enjoyed seeing her in her wig and gown and holding a mini court case with a jury. This visit inspired quite
a few of our young people.
Multi Academy Trust Sports day: As part of the St Edmundsbury and Ipswich MAT, we take part in the Year 6
sports day at St Mary’s in Woodbridge. Good luck to our pupils who are representing the school on Friday in
athletic events.
SEN enquiries: If you do have enquires relating to your child about Special Educational Needs, please direct these
to your child’s class teacher in the first instance and then Miss Smith, our SEN Co-ordinator (SENCo). It is not usually
appropriate to request information from teaching assistants (both on and off school premises) unless previously
agreed by Miss Smith.
Break a leg: To Charlie and Nathan in Year 1. They will be performing in the Stagecoach performance of "Tales of
the Unexpected” at the Ipswich Regent on July 1st. The performance will tell some well-known stories from
another perspective. "Pied Piper of Hamelin" from the view of the rats, "Oliver Twist" from Fagin’s side and some
nursery rhymes. The performance will be raising money for Macmillan.
Sports Day Arrangements: This year we will be holding Sports day on Wednesday 5th July on the playing field in
Nacton village, as there is much more room. We will be starting at 9.30am. We would advise parents to park safely
around the village, walk to the playing field and then join us back at school at 12noon (approx.) for a picnic lunch
with your child. Please bear in mind that there is very little shade on the playing field, so bring suncream, hats and
water for your own comfort. There are toilets in the pavilion. Please store your packed lunches in the annexe at
school. Also, if you could send your child to school wearing their PE kit and with sunblock/cream on we would be
grateful.
Well done: To all pupils and staff in Year 1, 2 and 6 who have now been assessed, marked and moderated in all
their recent tests. We will let parents know the results as soon as we can. Usually they are returned to us some
time in early July. To remind you, the pupils have statutory (must sit) tests at the following times:
Any questions please speak to your child’s class teacher or Miss Kidby.

Combining all that was best about the village flower show with the village family fun day, this event will be an enjoyable afternoon

In addition to lots of games and activities for children, there is the display of entries for the various classes – so why don’t you
enter for as many classes as you would like? Who knows – you might win! Entry sheets can be obtained from Orwell Stores or
you can find the list of classes here: nacton.suffolk.cloud
There will be stalls selling many different items as well as traditional competitions. This year there will be a decorated bicycle
competition for children and adults. Just decorate your bike in any way you like and bring it along. If you would like to hold a
table-top sale or run a stall then please let us know at Orwell Stores.
We are also looking for donations of bottles for the bottle stall or prizes for the tombola please. If you have any to donate then
please bring them to Orwell Stores or bring them along on the day. Support your village and make this a day to remember.
ITV - Little Big Shots: My name is Frankie and I am a Producer on the new series of the hit ITV show - Little Big Shots hosted by the simply
lovely Dawn French. The first series peaked with over 5 million viewers and we are delighted to be back shining the spotlight on more amazing
kids. The programme simply celebrates young talent and funny, entertaining children – from teeny tap dancers to dinosaur experts, from viral
superstars to acrobats, impressionists to comedians, from superb singers to Rubik’s Cube speed champions, mathematicians to sensational
spellers. It is not a competition or game show. Whether individuals, duos or groups of youngsters, the only rule is that the child is between the
ages of 3 and 13.
We are looking for performers and skills of all kinds and would love to know if you think there might be someone in your school that knows a
potential Little Big Shot! The direct link to our applications page is: https://www.walltowall.co.uk/casting/little-big-shots_1019.aspx Our YouTube
channel has clips from the first series and the link can be found below:
