KARDAM Kardam is a village in a municipality of General

Toshevo, in Dobrich Province in northeastern Bulgaria.

Kardam is a small village situated 85 km from Varna and Varna International Airport, 35 km north of Dobrich and 5 km away from the border with Romania.

Infrastructure 

In the village there is a secondary school, a community center, a kindergarten, a doctor's office, an Orthodox church, many grocery shops, a post-office.The village is supplied with water and electricity on a regular basis. The roads are in an excellent condition. Regular bus transportation connects the village to the towns of Dobrich and General Toshevo and the nearby villages. Kardam-Sofia railway is passing through the village.

General informationThe relief is flat. The climate is temperate-continental and is characterised by a hot summer, colourful autumn, cold winter with plenty of snowfalls and a sunny spring. The population numbers to approximately 1 000 people. Altitude - 198 m.

Development prospects The greatest advantages of the village are the excellent infrastructure and the proximity to the municipal center of General Toshevo.The main occupation of the local people is agriculture. Fruits and vegetables are grown, as well. The climate and the soil provide excellent conditions for growing grains. Bee-keeping is well developed, as well.Many of the village's inhabitants are commuting to their jobs in General Toshevo and the town of Dobrich on a regular basis.

The main subsistence of the people in Kardam is agriculture. The main crops are wheat, sunflower and maize.

The village is named after the Bulgarian ruler Khan Kardam who lived and ruled in the 8th century.

HISTORYThe first evidence of the village dates back to the Ottoman Empire around the XVI century. The village reports in the Turkish archives for taking taxes from the local population, which was mainly Turkish. The first village name found in the archives is Armagan Ogli Koyusu. On the lower part of the present village was located another village called- Abdul Nebi. Later both villages changed their names to Armaankuyusu (Harmankuyusu) and Nebikuyusu. In the fifties of 20th century the villages were called Kardam and Yasnets, but after that they were united into Kardam.

In our school children grade is from 1st to 8th. They come from five neighboring villages – Kardam, Yovkovo, Snyagovo, Chernookovo and Rogozina.

WE SING AND DANCE

Primary School “Hristo Botev”We establish a group for folklore singing and we organized different extracurricular activities, in which active participants are the kids from different ethnicity.The group took part in folklore festivals held in Stara Zagora, General Toshevo, Dobrich and Kavarna.

WE CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS

During December in the village cultural centre our students perform Christmas rituals. The kids meet Santa Claus on the stage during the Christmas Eve.
