1964……saw The Beatles release motion picture

with “A Hard Days Night”, the first stepping stone for what would later become known as music video…

…a year later in 1965, The Beatles promote their album releases with black and white tapes, sparking a new trend of promoting songs through videos.

1976…

…Queen air music video for Bohemian Rhapsody on Top of the Pops.

1981……MTV begins broadcasting across America, airs “Video killed the radio star” by The Buggles as its first video.

1983…

…Michael Jackson releases the historic “Thriller” along with a 14 minute music video, directed by John Landis. It was later named "a watershed moment for the music industry" for its merging of filmmaking and music…

…12 years later, Michael Jackson and sister Janet Jackson release the most expensive video ever made for their song ‘Scream’, costing $7 million dollars to produce.

2005…

…sees iTunes open, where just 20 days after music videos were introduced onto it, 1 million songs had been downloaded…

…the same year, the launch of youtube made it increasingly easier for artists to get their music and music out to fans, this is seen with the success of Ok Go’s video for ‘here it goes again’.

2010……Lady Gaga’s videos for ‘poker face’, ‘just dance’ and ‘bad romance’ collectively receive over 1 billion views on youtube, the first ever artist to achieve this.
