Our warmest welcome to Mark Neiwirth, a Distinguished Steinway Artist on the faculty of Idaho State University. He toured South Africa last year on behalf of the U.S. Embassy, and in Idaho he recently performed the Brahms second piano concerto with orchestra. (Because of a contractual technicality he played only the piano part.)
Since he is going to be in town following our concert at the Monterey Museum of Art La Mirada, Thursday evening, I reasoned that it was a good opportunity to persuade him to stay and play for our service. As to the helicopter I told him would pick him up right after the service, well, that will explain why I won’t hang around to chat.
Along an unaccustomed (i.e. serious) train of thought, Mark is an exceptional pianist and artist, and we really are so fortunate to have him perform for us. He and I will play piano duets 4-hands, not unlike the Blue Angels precision flying, where if there is a midair collision, everybody knows right away. EnJOY!
