Skeletal Muscle

The skeletal muscle tissue composes muscles attached to the bones. They are under voluntary

control, so just about everything you do with your body is controlled by these muscles. They function all the time to maintain your posture, or even express a facial expression. They can also be called striated voluntary muscle, meaning it is striped and it is under willed control.

Smooth Muscle

Smooth muscles are found on the inside walls of hollow muscles (stomach, intestine etc.). They are long and narrow fibers with a nonstriated appearance. ©28

Another name for the smooth muscle is nonstriated involuntary muscle, because there are no striations and it cannot be controlled by will.

Cardiac Muscle

Also known as striated involuntary muscle, the cardiac muscle have cross striations and dark bands called intercalated disks. The gap junctions between the disks allow for communication channels between the cells. As their name states, they line the wall of the heart.
