Social InfrastructureAdequate amount of social Infrastructure according to the number of residents is to be provided Eg: 1Anganwadi /100houses

• Roads

• Playground

• Sewar

• Biogas Plant

• Rain water harvesting

• Garden’s and landscaped area

• Anganwadi

Piling issue

short

com

ing

s

• The site is on a landfill area. Hence the soil Is loose.

• The soil cannot sustain the load of a multistoried building, hence a pile foundation is to be used.

• On using piled foundation , the project cost runs beyond the budget

Bland design

short

com

ing

s

The layout is a monotonous array buildings without any need based pattern or arrangement

As part of JNURM the Two G+2 towers were constructed in this location in 2008.

A study of its current condition and Relevant feedback would provide sufficient insight on the impact of this project.

Funding issue

Learn

ing

fro

m t

he p

ast

• Only 2 towers of the project was constructed due to unavailability of funds.

• The 2 Tower were designed to be part of system , hence they failed to function independently.

• Worn-out Paint

• Broken Septic tanks

• Un-serviced common facilities

• A Conception that maintenance is the responsibility of the Govt

maintenance issue

Learn

ing

fro

m t

he p

ast

• A skeptic view towards multi storied buildings.

• Insecurity of not owning a piece of land.

• Lack of co-operation to share common facilities

• Reluctance of donating land to the common pool.

Social Reluctance

Learn

ing

fro

m t

he p

ast

• Misuse by Subletting , Reselling the units.

• No Provision for expansion once the family grows.

• The Design couldn’t ensure a Social-Decorum

• Light weight material would reduce the load on the foundation.

• It would remove the need of piled foundation.

Single-Str & Row housing

• Modularity and Mass Production• Challenging to design• Easy to assemble• Light weight• Efficient

Prefabrication

• Modularity• Challenging to Design• Efficient• High Maintenance Required• Highly Skeptic Outlook expected

Flexible

• Modularity• Challenging to Design• Efficient• The sense of community created• Human Psychological and • anthropometric need considered

Setting Goals

Upon comparison of various options , certain goals were set

• To find alternative Public/private Sponsorship to supplement the Govt Funding.

• To Convince the people about the advantages of multi-storied buildings , as well as following a ‘Need’ Based Design Approach.

• Better Technology (like prefabrication) to be used for constructing multi-floor buildings on the soft soil of the site.

• Going for single storied building would be highly ineffective due to the lack of land

Challenge in hand

1. To Design a new generation prototype with the given constraints, which can be successfully replicated in different locations

2. To Elevate the quality of life of the residents of Mundamveli, By creating a social environment

2. To ensure successful execution of the project.
