The Peterson Garden Project has partnered with neighborhoods across the city of Chicago to develop community gardens…
Community gardens are…
single pieces of land gardened collectively by a group of people.
Gardens improve quality of life for members
of the neighborhood.
Gardens add to the beauty in the community
and awareness of living things.
Eating locally-produced food reduces
fuel consumption.
Gardens are areas of recreation and
exercise, and they reduce stress.
They date back to World War II…
Victory Gardens were planted by families in the United States
(the Home Front) to help prevent a food shortage…
Many schools across the country planted Victory Gardens
on their school grounds and used their produce
in their school lunches…
and…
Northeastern was the
site of Chicago’s
largest victory garden.
Similar to the one
pictured, it was over
30 acres large.
March 29, 2014, in conjunction with Peterson Garden Project,
