Dear Parishioners,
I have received many compliments about the remodel of the sanctuary and there have been questions posed about it too. One simple question was “Is it finished?” In every construction project there is a punch list of things that need to be done. I am not going to go through that list, but one has been put together and the contractors are working on that list so we can say we are fin-ished with that job. There are other things that were not a part of this work that need to be done.
The altar used for the tabernacle is temporary. The picture of the re-model shows a different style pedestal for the tabernacle. Kevin Clark designed a pedestal but the materials for it were not selected, nor was a decision made on who would build it. We realize the presently the tabernacle is too low for that space and it is difficult to see. We are still working on the details with Kevin Clark and hope to have that done and changed soon.
The other glaring need is for kneelers to use during the distribution of communion. We have not placed the kneelers back into the center of the aisle for distribution of communion because the committee’s desire and direction is to put an altar railing on the first step of the sanctuary. This will have a number of great benefits to the Church. First it will keep the center aisle open particu-larly for funerals and weddings. It will provide an opportunity for families and groups to kneel together to receive communion, being a visible and sacramental sign of our unity with Christ and with one another in the reception of the Eucha-rist. A practical advantage to a communion rail will be that it can also serve as a hand railing to enter the sanctuary, and it will be a beautiful addition to assist in navigating the steps. The communion rail will also add a finishing touch to the sanctuary. We are currently speaking with Pat Ratigan about the design of the rail, and getting an estimate of the cost.
Probably not the final thing, but one that we have been talking about, is placing the baptismal font in the sanctuary. We will be doing that soon. There are also questions about the furniture in the sanctuary and whether it fits into the new design.
The funds to accomplish these additions to the sanctuary remodel will come from a large gift that Gilbert and Florence Kobza gave to purchase the new tabernacle, and a gift in memory of Toni Bohac. Their gift will cover these expenses, and will complete the sanctuary remodel. The sanctuary is beautiful and I look forward to adding these items to complete it. God Bless you.
