Media Literacy Projects
• Each US History II class will have it's own webpageo Will have class assignments, links to online
resources, discussion board, and project galleries• All students will participate in three projects
integrating social studies with technology:o Field Trip Media Projecto Web Palso World's Fair
Field Trip Media Project
• As part of our unit on the Emergence of Modern America, we will be taking a field trip to Ellis Island
• Students will film and photograph their experience and will create a multimedia presentation that will be featured on our class website
• We will work with tech lab and TV studio to edit and produce short films and photo galleries
• Will correlate with our school's media literacy goal of incorporating technology into our classrooms
Web Pals
• Students will have weekly video conferences via web to discuss current events with students from partner schools in England, Germany, South Africa, and Japan
• Students will be assigned one "Web Pal" per 8 week session with partner classroom
• Students will keep a journal of their experience to be submitted at the end of the year
• Will broaden students' world perspective and allow them to communicate with their international peers via the internet
• Highlights will be posted on the class webpage
World's Fair
• Teams of four will select a country to represent and create a booth for our World's Fair Day event
• All aspects of a country's culture, heritage, & politics are expected to be presented in the booth, along with a 10-12 page paper
• 8th Grade students only - other grade levels, faculty, and families participate as visitors
• Videos and photos of the event will be posted on our class webpage
• Will help students achieve teamwork goals and visual critical thinking skills
