TRANSCRIPT

Greetings Fellow Alumni,

The combined Parents/Family Weekend and Light Up Mansfield Again (LUMA), September 20 was a huge

success. More than 6,000 students, families and friends attended the weekend events. Over 4,000 attended the game,

the second largest in College Sprint Football League history.

Field hockey drew the second largest crowd for the regular season in Div. II history. Women’s soccer had its second

largest crowd ever with 548.

We were honored to have Chancellor Frank Brogan

and his wife Courtney “throw the switch” to turn on the

lights and ignite the fireworks before the game.

At halftime of our football game with the University

of Pennsylvania, our world-renowned choir was honored

for bringing home three gold medals from the World

Choir Games hosted in Riga, Latvia in July. The equally

esteemed Mountie Marching Band performed its usual

excellent show. SGA distributed 1,000 blue glow sticks which students, staff and parents held during a moment of

silence in memory of PA State Trooper Cpl. Bryon Dickson, killed by a sniper on Sept. 12. The idea was conceived

by our thoughtful and compassionate students.

The whole event is covered on various social media sites. Check them out and plan on being part of LUMA 15!

The Fabulous 1890s and Homecoming joined forces this year, combining two Mansfield traditions. We’re fortunate

to be in a community in which we can share and cooperate for the benefit of

all. Mansfield Borough and Mansfield University were created the same year

– 1857 – and we’ve been working closely together ever since!

Homecoming is the tradition of welcoming back alumni to spend a day

eating, reminiscing and watching a game. The Fabulous 1890s revolves

around the fact that we played the world’s first night football game on Sept.

28, 1892.

The Weekend, which has earned national and international media

attention over the years, includes the reenactment of that historic game.

Mansfield University recently announced the addition of the Institute of Science and the Environment. The Institute

will coordinate non-credit and for-credit initiatives to provide community leadership on the natural environment.

Through research programs in the sciences and humanities, internships, workforce training, and private/public

partnerships, the Institute will provide resources for students, alumni, and neighboring communities, with a focus on

Tioga and Bradford Counties.

We’ll be hearing a lot more from the Institute in the near future.

Finally, congratulations to this year’s Hall

of Fame inductees: Tim Cook ‘94 for men’s

basketball; Heather Long ‘05 for field hockey

and softball; and Paul “Duke” Neatrour ‘96

for baseball. The 1964 men’s basketball team,

coached by Bill Clark, is the first team inducted

into the Hall of Fame in the newly established

Team Category. http://issuu.com/mansfieldu/
