Objective

Students will be able to conduct their own experiment for respiration.

1. Desk should only have what you need for your lab

2. Get your procedure and observation tables checked!

3. Assign Roles1. Leader– keeps everyone on task and doing what they are suppose to-

reads through each step of procedure2. Experimenter- completing the experiment3. Timer- timing how long it takes for solution to change color4. Recorder- recording observations and data for entire group

4. Make sure everything is working properly before you begin!

5. Get started on your lab

Exhaling Carbon Dioxide Lab

Exhaling Carbon Dioxide Lab

Complete All 9 trials of the lab

If you need more BtB, ASK!!!!!!

When done, clean up entire area!!

Grab “Exhaling Carbon Dioxide Lab Wrap Up Questions” Worksheet from the front and get started on answering the questions.

Lab Wrap Up Questions

1. What was your hypothesis?

2. Was your hypothesis supported? Explain using your data that was collected during your experiment. (My hypothesis was supported because… My hypothesis was not supported because…)

3. How long did it take for the solution to change color during the control part of the experiment (an average)?

4. How did exercising affect the amount of time it took for the solution the change color?

5. In the experimental groups of the experiment, what variables were you testing?

6. In 2-4 sentences, explain how cell respiration and breathing respiration are related.

7. In 3-5 sentences, explain how the results of your experiment are related to the process of cell respiration. Be sure to explain how increased cellular activity affects carbon dioxide output. ( on back of paper)

X Period

Complete the Respiratory System Word Search and Crossword as a group– we will go over at the end of class Use your Respiratory System reading and notes to complete

When done, you may… if you have not finished your 2 column notes, work on that

If you have not finished the wrap up questions, work on this

If you a device and you would like to type your lab sheet or procedure, you may do so

Read a magazine from the Reading materials

Read a book

Respiratory System Worksheet

As a group, fill out the worksheet on the Respiratory System

Respiratory System Foldable

Using your notes, create a foldable for the respiratory system.

You need to include

Parts

Function

How does it work with other systems?( do the best you can)

What else do we know? (include cell respiration)

What else do I know about this system?

Take in oxygen to the body, remove carbon dioxide

Nose, mouth, pharynx, larynx, trachea, lungs, bronchi, bronchioles, alveoli, diaphragm

breathe in oxygen, oxygen is picked up in the lungs by the blood and taken throughout the body- dropped off at the cells; blood picks up carbon dioxide from the cells and drops it off at the lungs, where it is exhaled

Breathing respiration works with cellular respiration- gives cells oxygen to complete process; breathes out the carbon dioxide waste product from the process; when you exercise, you exhale more carbon dioxide; voice box is located in this system; pleura is a membrane surrounding the lungs

Objective

Students will be able to relate cell respiration to the respiratory system

Homework- Go Over

Exhaling Carbon Dioxide Lab

What I am collecting today in this order…

1. Typed Lab sheet

2. Typed and Corrected Procedure

3. Observations and Data Tables

If you shared it with me on Google Drive, I will print it later today.

***Make sure you are creating a FOLDER to put your papers in for Science with YOU NAME

Respiratory System Foldable

Using your notes, create a foldable for the respiratory system.

You need to include…

Take in oxygen to the body, removes carbon dioxide and some water vapor

Nose, mouth, pharynx, larynx, trachea, lungs, bronchi, bronchioles, alveoli, diaphragm, epiglottis

Circulatory System- breathes in oxygen, oxygen is picked up in the lungs by the blood (circ. Sys) and taken throughout the body- dropped off at the cells; blood picks up carbon dioxide from the cells and drops it off at the lungs, where it is exhaled

Breathing respiration works with cellular respiration- gives cells oxygen to complete process; breathes out the carbon dioxide waste product from the process; when you exercise, you exhale more carbon dioxide; voice box is located in this system; pleura is a membrane surrounding the lungs; the lungs fill up like balloons when you breathe in; you exhale less carbon dioxide when you are inactive; we breathe about 20,000 times per day; mucus keeps tissues from drying out;
