Transition.
Pupils will be spending
the week with their new
class teacher from
Monday 9th July.
Reports will also be given
to the pupils to bring
home on this day.
Dear Parent/carer,
Thank you to all parents for the wonderful support and
encouragement that you gave to all of our pupils on Sports Day.
Thank you also to the staff for making sure that the day was well
organised with plenty of events for the pupils to enjoy.
Following a meeting with Heidi Mortimer and other
community members we have decided to move our WW1 project to
September when the school will be involved in a presentation in the
community hall followed by a beacon lighting ceremony in
November.

you to share and enjoy the wonderful work
which they have been working hard on all year.
Come and take a look!
Nursery – Mrs Dawn Jones
We had a great time on Friday 8th for our nursery sports
morning; the children enjoyed all the activities and once again
they were all fantastically behaved. A big thanks to playgroup
staff and our year 6 children for helping with the event; the
year 6 saved me from a lot of running!!
We have started putting together our nursery show; all children
have been given their parts and I will be providing most
costumes. If you are uncertain of your child’s nursery rhyme
character then please ask at the end of nursery session. Our
show will be on Wednesday 18th
July and the graduation for the
older nursery (reception in September) will follow the show.
During Read Write Inc. sessions we have been learning the “x”
sound and we have been using numicon pieces to make to 4 in
maths.
Class 1 – Mrs. Catherine Thomas
The children all thoroughly enjoyed their annual sport's day.
Thank you for all your support. The pupil's created a map of the
route they took to the field. Reception drew their route onto a
map while Year 1 drew their own maps and wrote a recount of
how they got there.
Over the past couple of weeks we have been gearing up to the
start of The World Cup. The pupils have been participating in
many activities such as penalty shoot outs, how many 'keepy
uppys' can you do? How far can you kick a ball? Reception were
comparing furthest and nearest while Year 1 measured their
results using non-standard units. The children have also been
writing player profiles and creating posters to advertise The
World Cup. We have been finding out which countries have won
The World Cup since it began. Children created their own tally
charts before transferring their data into graphing packages on
the HWB.
Class 2 – Mrs Donna Davies Another very busy fortnight with our topic ‘Wriggle and Crawl’! We
have investigated and observed ‘what lives in a tree?’ using a large
white sheet and taking turns to gently shake one of the trees in our
school garden. We found many leaves, twigs, flowers, buds and petals.
Also, we found a Harvestman spider, small red spider, caterpillar and
gnat. Freya found a bright green caterpillar and together with her
friends made a nice home for it. Jac found a baby grasshopper. We have
continued to learn about mini-beast life cycles and the children have
confidently shared their homework projects with their friends. In
language, we have started to create a ‘guidebook’ for looking after
mini-beasts. So far, we have brain-stormed ideas for suitable titles and
chosen our favourite and listed equipment needed when looking for
and caring for mini-beasts, which we did in alphabetical order. In Welsh
we drew a mini-beast garden and wrote about where the mini-beasts
were, using prepositions, such as in, on, under, in front of, behind,
above. We have been learning about the past and sorting items ‘past
and present’ in Venn diagrams. We enjoyed sorting ‘Human and
Natural’ features of different places. We went on a ‘Sound Walk’
around our school, recording the sounds we heard. We sorted materials
and looked at different sources of light, both natural and man-made.
We enjoyed looking at different images, creating dance movements and
musical compositions in groups.
Class 4 – Mr. Darren Richards
Well we have been busy these last few weeks and
can't believe the summer holidays are just a few
weeks away. In literacy, we have been looking at
persuasive writing. The children are going to
advertise a holiday to the country they have chosen
in the world cup sweepstakes. In numeracy we are
looking at shapes, focussing on symmetry which the
children are enjoying. In topic the children are
getting ready to design a leaflet for their music
festival. Time is flying by so let’s keeping working
hard and end the year on a high!
Class 3 – Mrs. Abigail Williams
Over the last few weeks the children have
been busy completing their maths tasks
on time. In language they have enjoyed
writing their own stories based on the
poem The Jabberwocky. We have also
been researching facts about countries
that produce Fair Trade goods.
Everyone enjoyed the world cup activity
day which included class activities, penalty
shootouts and of course cake and biscuit
stalls.
Class 5 – Mrs. Gaynor Johnson
We have certainly been hard at work since half term writing
up our storyboards and stories of Blodeuwedd, the girl
made of flowers from the famous welsh legends of the
Mabinogion. In Maths we have been working in groups to
investigate co-ordinates in the first and four quadrants,
translations and rotations of shapes and properties of 3D
shapes. We have continued our Hwb presentations on the
Day of the Dead and some of us have begun
investigating the cost of travelling to Mexico City with a
budget of £1,000! We have also used our numeracy skills in
working out problems about the World cup as well as
practicing our ball skills for the Penalty shoot out!! Well
done all for Sports day. I enjoyed the team spirit and was
impressed with the budding athletes! 😊
