MISSIONThe North Carolina Conservation Network is a statewide network of over 60 environmental, community, and environmental justice affiliates focused on protecting North Carolina’s environment and public health.
Our mission is to support, train, and coordinate diverse groups and directly advocate to achieve equitable and sustainable solutions for our environment.
Dear Supporters & Friends,
As I talk with friends and family across the country it doesn’t take long for them to ask me, “What’s going on in North
Carolina?”
I heard it when Governor McCrory and the legislature rushed to open North Carolina to fracking.
I really heard it when coal ash spilled into the Dan River and Governor McCrory and his environmental agency moved to protect Duke Energy instead of the public.
Most recently, I heard it when the head of Governor McCrory’s environmental agency led the charge against implementing common-sense Clean Power Plan standards to address climate change.
Now, stop and consider that these are just the big environmental stories that have grabbed national headlines and ridicule. The full list of stories goes on and on.
My response to friends and family is always the same: “This is not my North Carolina. We’re fighting back every step of the way and we’re going to get North Carolina back on track.”
This non-stop assault on our state’s environment has required us to grow and adapt to meet these new challenges. Your support has enabled us to do so while we’ve fought environmental rollbacks and built for a better future.
We haven’t always won – but it would have been far worse without your support and our work as we have stopped some of the worst proposals to rollback existing protections.

BOARD:
Board member organizations are listed for informational purposes only.
Thanks to you, we’re stronger and ready for the fights that still await us. Specifically, we’ve:
1) Grown our grassroots base ten-fold over the past few years. Our large social media outreach not only educates and mobilizes citizens but can also shape overall public opinion.
2) Built a communications program that is successfully earning coverage in multiple media outlets throughout the state using diverse messengers.
3) Grown our organizing team and deepened our reach on our top issues. We’re working with activists to attend public hearings, submit letters to the editors, and more.
4) Expanded our policy work allowing us to cover more issues during this time of increased rollbacks.
5) Begun to identify and are supporting the next generation of environmental leaders. This involves working with our activists to help them take on additional leadership work in their communities.
While much of 2015 was spent fighting bad rollback proposals, I remain optimistic. Together, we’re fighting for OUR North Carolina. We will continue to stand with you until we move towards a sustainable future.
Your support makes it all possible. For that, I say “thank you!”
For OUR North Carolina,
Brian Buzby, Executive Director
