Mission Direct enables people like you to make a practical and lasting difference to the lives of the world’s poorest people.
You do it by joining us on a one or two week overseas trip. You roll up your sleeves and help to build or renovate a house, classroom, clinic or refuge. And you will forge friendships with the people you are serving. It’s not all hard work though. You will see some breathtaking sights in your free time; a safari in the Maasai Mara or a visit to the historic Taj Mahal, for instance.
You will help to free people from material and spiritual poverty. But, just as importantly, you will be transformed: time and time again, our volunteers return home energised to become more caring and generous human beings.
Mission Direct does pretty much everything for you. We take care of flights, visas, accommodation, meals and lots more besides. We also prepare you for the trip with a special orientation day and a trip handbook full of good advice.
The suggested trip contribution covers nearly every aspect of your stay:
Return flights from the UK
Insurance and visas
In-country travel and accommodation
Food and water
Entry fees for cultural outings
Orientation and debrief days in the UK to help you get the most from your trip
As well as your suggested contribution, we encourage you to raise vital funds for your project, paying for things like building materials, local labour and expertise. This money is essential to the project’s running. Please be ready to raise as much extra money as you can: 100% of this money goes straight to the project.
Use your holiday time for good
All trip details were correct when Go! 2015 went to press. However, working in some of the poorest parts of the world requires us to be flexible. For this reason we sometimes have to make some changes to the itinerary. We may need to change the accommodation, visits or occasionally, the building project. If you book a Mission Direct trip we will keep you informed of any significant changes. To check the very latest details about any trip, go to our website www.missiondirect.org. While we welcome all donations, please note that credit cards do incur a processing fee from the card companies.

Where to Go?
To learn more visit missiondirect.org
Each Mission Direct project is different. What’s best for you will depend on your priorities and your passions.
Do you want to bring your family? Are you fired up by the idea of addressing human trafficking? Do you want to build a home for a family living in a slum? You will find some of the following symbols on each country page. They highlight some of the key emphases for each trip. Use these symbols to help you decide which one will suit you best.
Family FriendlyEspecially suitable for families with children 7+ because of accommodation, child-friendly visits and a slightly gentler pace.
Teen FriendlyWell suited to teens and youth groups.
HIV/AIDSYou will be serving communities who have been badly affected by HIV/AIDS.
Home MakerYou will be building a home for a household living in dreadful conditions.
Girl PowerTrips with a focus on safety and equality for women, particularly women at risk.
Faith BuildingChristians are a minority in these regions. If you have a faith, you can offer local Christians support and encouragement.
DisabilityIn these countries, disability means a life on the margins. You will help to redress this.
TraffickingYou will be helping to keep young people from trafficking, abuse and other dangers.
One-to-One CompassionPrepare to have your heart expanded; you will spend time forging friendships and listening.
Young PeopleYou will help with projects that minister to children who have often been left to fend for themselves.
Project FocusedMost of the day will be spent building and decorating, rather than visiting other projects.
EducationYou will be building desperately needed school facilities.

Brazil’s slums or “favelas” are a side to the nation that few
westerners ever see.
They are a hidden world of shocking poverty, addiction and squalor. You can help to rescue a family from this life by building them a new home away from the favelas; it’s the chance to show God’s love in action to Brazil’s forgotten poor.

Off duty in Brazil
You will get to see the colourful, exotic and spectacular side of Brazil on a very special excursion. Pack a few tail feathers, just in case.
In the afternoon you will get to visit and help at a number of church-run community projects in the region.
Example visit: CEIFAR is a remarkable Christian rehab centre. You will meet the men and women fighting drug and alcohol addiction on the seven month programme. They will want to tell you about their lives and you will hear some remarkable testimonies of God at work. As this is Brazil, you may well get to play some of them at football too.

Cambodian pastor Sara Sansy felt God call him to create new
homes and communities for the very poorest people of Phnom
Penh; people without a home, proper clothes, money or medicine.
With the support of fellow Christians (a small minority in Cambodia) and Mission Direct, he has built a village for some of these people, with homes, education and healthcare. Come and join us as we help to expand this community of love.
Go to: Build a community of love

The project is based in a mountainous rural region of the Sichuan Province – the real China, not the tourist version!
Off duty in China
You will experience the spectacular beauty of the region with a visit to the breathtaking Mount Guangwu. The fortnight is rounded off with a visit to the city of Chengdu, including a trip to the world famous panda sanctuary.
ContributionTrip contribution is requested to cover expenses. All further money you raise goes directly to the project.

leave home to work I wanted to cry and ask you to stay?”
A heartfelt plea from one of China’s “left behind” children. Mum and Dad have gone to the city for work leaving their child with elderly relatives, often in poverty. The children will be lucky to see their parents more than once a year. Come and prepare a special centre to cater for the needs of children like this, offering them food, education and attention.

The project
The Maasai Rescue Centre will offer refuge and education for young women who have fled forced marriage and FGM. It also seeks to build bridges between the runaways and their families. You will be helping to build the centre in Narok.
Off duty in Kenya

You have untold riches to impart to teachers in Africa. Come and
play a critical role in raising the standard of education in Sierra
Leone, Zambia, Kenya or Uganda.
You will be working alongside local teachers, helping them to develop their teaching methods; often they face classes of over 100 with few resources and little training.
You can show these hard-pressed teachers how to make the very most of what they do have at their disposal. Help them develop child-centred learning materials and show them how to transform their classrooms into positive learning environments.
We also welcome other educational professionals, including classroom assistants, educational psychologists, educational social workers, counsellors and teacher trainers.

Moldova is the poorest nation in Europe.
Because of this it has become a centre for human trafficking – often forcing women into prostitution. Many girls need somewhere to stay, a place to learn and a safe space to get ready for adult life. Come and prepare that place of safety for Moldova’s most at risk young women.
The project
We will be working with an organisation dedicated to improving the lives of women who have been, or are, at risk of being trafficked. You could be working to renovate a safe house.
You may get to decorate a family house to make it feel more like a home, so that the girls don’t feel the need to turn to pimps and traffickers to escape. If you are a dab hand at sewing and furnishings, your talents will be particularly appreciated making curtains, cushions and throws.
Off duty in Moldova

For the first time this year we have arranged some
exciting one week trips, travelling to three of our most
popular locations; perfect for anyone for whom free
time is at a premium.
You will still get to make a practical and lasting difference in that time, as well as having your horizons broadened immeasurably.

Meet Turley Planning Consultants (pictured above)
Turley Planning Consultants took a team of ten employees to one of the poorest areas of Freetown, Sierra Leone. The team worked hard on a Vocational Training Centre for Freetown’s unemployed youth. They were also able to meet with and offer planning advice to senior members of the Sierra Leonean Government, regarding affordable housing. And they raised £20,000 towrds their project, as well as bringing personal gifts and performing many other acts of kindness.
We were all challenged by the trip and can see how,
as a company we can make a contribution beyond
our walls.”
One week trips
Go corporateWe are happy to book you on two or more consecutive
trips in a particular country.
There is usually a one week gap between trips in a particular season – just long enough to do a little bit of exploring of your own, or to chill out before work begins again.
Call us on 01582 720056 to discuss your requirements.
Stay longer than two weeks
