Ziel
CO2 Kühlesysteme für CMS Tracker nach Vorbild des LHCb 3 kW Kühlsystems
Geplant für:- CMS Pixel Upgrade mit ~3 kW, 2013- CMS Streifen Upgrade mit ~100 kW, 2017
Vorteile:- Sensortemperaturen von -30°C – 40°C- Verminderung der Kühlsystemstrahlungs- länge um ~90% (Querschnittsüberschlag)

Vorteile von CO2
- Hohe Verdampfungsenthalpie - Temperaturen von -50 - +15°C
erreichbar- kaum Druckverlust in Röhrchen
da geringe Viskosität (1/6 H2O)- gute Benetzung da niedrige
Oberflächungspannung
- Hoher CO2 Druck im Zu- und Rückführungssystem von
70 bar bei 20°C und 50 bar bei 15°C

LHCb System wird am CERN aufgebaut mit:- KA Chiller (von Tracker Integration)- KA Membranpumpe (Lewa)- KA HEX (Heat Exchanger)- KA Accumulator und Dumper Behälter (Swagelok, 3,8l)
Ziele:- Komponententest und -auswahl - Flow-Regime-Messung von CO2 für Simulation - Druckabfallberechnung durch FH Esslingen- Skalierung auf 100 kW durch Simulation

Flow-Regime ohne Gravitation
Aufgrund der extrem niedrigen Viskosität und hohen Drücke des CO2 sind bestehende Flow-Regime Modelle zu ungenau um Druckabfälle ineinem 100 kW System mit 50 bar Druck zu berechnen. Mit CO2 Flow-Regime-Maps parametriesierte Modelle sollten aber genaugenug sein.
